Monarch Drop 105-102 Double Over Time Game to Charlotte

I was at that game, only game I've attended at ODU. Loughtton scorched us for 45 points. However, Plavich hit that shot from 10 feet behind the three point line with 7 seconds left. Don't feel bad though, he did the same to Indiana.

I enjoyed playing against Cincy. It was heated, but fun. I disliked Louisville worse, but kicked the crap out of them enough that they couldn't say much.

Ah, yes, that was the year we became competitive again, but didn't quite get over the top and that game was Loughton's coming out party. Great game that was. We also took the Delonte West/Jameer Nelson #1 St. Joe's team down to the wire that year. It was the next year that we won our first CAA under Blaine Taylor.

We had a 4 point lead with the ball with about 20 seconds left. We threw the ball away while they were trying to foul and then gave up two threes while missing one of two ft's in the last 15 seconds. Neither coach called a time out in the last minute so it all happened in like 90 seconds (made three, two free throws, made three, inept inbound play, game,over).

UCF out of the old C-USA. In the new league I don't hate anyone yet. However, this WKU/MTSU arguing is already on my nerves.

Nobody hates ECU? I'm kinda hurt by that to be honest.

ECU fans are a breed of their own. I know when I lived in NC and would wear a USM shirt or hat, it was nothing for an ECU fan to come up and jokingly say something bad about USM and I'd do the same.. It's a mutual respect type thing.

Out of the old CUSA...UCF, for sure. Like another poster, I soured on Houston posters simply because of the way many of them played the superiority card when they left.

The team I want to beat most in CUSA is Southern Mississippi. They are usually so good (barring last year, of course) that when you do beat them, you have done something special. But I admire the school and its fans greatly and know they'll be back soon.

And, ECU? Just like Dorothy said to the Scarecrow, "I think I'll miss you most of all." Not only our history together, but we've had some of the best games two teams could have together. The last two regular season games and the Birmingham Bowl game, an instant classic on ESPN, were truly special.

Exactly.. I was in a bar one night and the guy that was the QB a few years back at ECU, his brother was there and saw me wearing a gray Southern Miss Football shirt.

He said: Where did you find that God awful rag at?
I said: I bought it when I was a student at USM.

Man looked at my beer bottle and said: Give him one on me.
Then he turned and said: My little brother plays at ECU, maybe I can bribe you with enough beer you can make a phone call and they call the dogs off next game.

It turned into a cool friendship to where when we'd run into each other, that if he bought rounds the time before it was my turn. There was never bad blood between us, it was fun and games except for the weekends we played.

There's only one school I loathe. I don't like their city. I don't like their colors. i don't like their political position and clout. I don't like the rank and file of their fanbase, who will tell you in a jack-flash that they are Louisiana's "STATE school" (whatever that really even means..?) and the rest of us need to stop trying to get better, just KNOW and ACCEPT our "place."

Living in Louisiana, and having lsu crammed down my throat every day? No...trust me when I say, Tech fans for the most part KNOW who our real enemy is, and Louisiana Tech will never be MORE than they allow us to be, and they have the power of our state government to enforce it.

HAHA All that being said, I can deal with every/any school in C-USA just fine.

I'd say good, old-fashioned rival hate will come with however games turn out. You typically don't hit the ground running against a new team with that level of emotion. For Marshall, there were several incidents during football games against little Miami (one of their assistant coaches punched a fan during a game in Huntington and was escorted off the field in handcuffs by police) and lots of history in a short amount of time with ucf that garnered what I consider hate (hiring our basketball coach, who had brought back positivity and optimism to the program; beating them several games in a row during the MAC years then losing to them way too many years in a row during the CUSA years; had a couple fans treat my wife and I like utter garbage during a game there one year; etc.).

Things will happen during football/basketball games that piss opposing fans off - it'll be the real unique instances that build up for a 'hated' rivalry, all of which are typically in good fun. I wish no harm against little Miami or ucf players/fans but I can still hate them in a sports fan sense of the word.

With that being said, I'd say ECU was a great rivalry for us, as several have pointed out, due to the plane crash connection. I'm real bummed that won't be our annual season-ender, as it's been a pretty pivotal game for both/either program the past few years.

Going forward, I'd say for Marshall there's a lot of chance for rivalries with our new members that are close to us: Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion, Charlotte and Western Kentucky. Charlotte probably has the most initial chance for football rivalry due to the coaching connections between the schools.

For our traveling fan base who live in the tri-state area around Huntington, these new additions are really great. I live in the Chicago metro area, but I've got several customers in Nashville, Miami and other locations that should set up nicely to visit new members during Marshall games there.
