RE: History in the making
The Atlantic Sun will never get to the sweet 16. Ever.

How many times did I hear that in the past 8 years? If we go to the SoCon, I'm not convinced it's a step up @ the present time, at least for men's basketball. I don't see how that argument could even be made with any rational or logical thought. The league may not even exist in 2-3 years, but it's a lot better league than many give it credit, including most of this entire board.

Congrats to Gulf Coast! I remember Andy Enfield doing his post game interview in the dome, completely distraught after the Bucs somehow pulled off the upset. According to transitive inference, ETSU just beat Georgetown & San Diego State!

The Southern is not a step up, the OVC is a huge step up. But we really need to be worried about Florida Gulf Coast using this to possibly get an invite to somewhere else, thus making the Atlantic Sun even weaker especially after Mercer leaves.

Florida Gulf Coast's 6th man has more athleticism than anyone on our team. Thats very worrisome.

Wow. Congratulations to FGCU. Enfield showed how it is done. Our guy will never get it done like that. I believe that is what people on here are talking about. It is that our basketball team is currently coach limited and until the change is made we are stuck.

Wow...What FGCU has accomplished is mind boggling. Congratulations. What I admired most is that Enfield recruits players who can play a little man to man. They suffocate their competition. It's fun to watch. The Eagles are going to have to build a larger arena. That school may never be the same.

Interesting that after all these years, ETSU's conference gets back at former Michigan coach Fisher. He coached Michigan to the 12 point whoopin' on ETSU back in 1992 in the NCAA 2nd round.

This article says that each game Florida Gulf Coast wins, the conference receives $250,000. Hopefully some of that trickles down to ETSU.

You know I really believe SDSU would have had a better chance against Georgetown than FGCU. FGCU just took it to them in the 2nd half.

I don't believe I ever said the ASUN would never get to the sweet 16 on this board, but I certainly thought it to myself. I still am in disbelief as to how they have accomplished this. Part of me is happy for them, and part of me is jealous and upset, thinking how this is just another example of a team coming from nowhere to pass us by. The ASUN just isn't the conference for us, but I will give FGCU all the credit they deserve. They are a school on the rise.

The transfer they have for next year from Marquette is a player. Will fit right into their style of play.

Man to man defense? What in the world is that?

OVC is a huge step up? I'm not convinced that a move to the OVC is anything but a lateral move after this. It's what I've been arguing for a long time, actually: All of these leagues are essentially the same in men's basketball, because they are all one-bid leagues.

It's just funny on here that everyone wants to talk about FGCU as a team, but if this was Davidson, they would be screaming about how great a win this was for the SoCon! The double standard is so blatant, but no one really wants to admit that. It's ok to be wrong.

It will be tough but after the way they've played it wouldn't surprise me.

I would have said that's there is no way in hell that they could beat UF, but they're making me a believer. This team is brimming with confidence.

Maybe Bartow will learn from Coach Enfield on how to breed confidence and belief? On second thought....nevermind.

Yes the OVC is a huge step up. Belmont would have been a bubble team this year if they had lost in the conference championship game. FGCU is not nearly as good of a team as some of the Belmont teams were in the last few years, and I dont think they are as good as ETSU's 2004 and 2009 teams. Their run is amazing, partly because of this fact. But this does not mean that the ASUN is a great conference and does not make it better than the OVC overall.
