RE: BREAKING NEWS
I'm sorry but I would argue that when you are competing directly with programs that are blatantly or "allegedly" cheating, that IS germane to my program. I say this despite the fact that Dixon is 10-3 versus Boeheim all-time despite almost always being significantly less talented.

RE: BREAKING NEWS
THE UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA GETS SCHOOLED
NZM - Montana
March 12, 2013
Although many Grizzly fans are calling the University of Montana Grizzly's 47 point loss to the Syracuse University Orange "demoralizing," the University of Montana basketball team and school administration has found a silver lining.
"This is the best thing that has ever happened to me" exclaimed one Montana freshman basketball player after the game. He then clarified by pointing out that "[they] were so schooled that [they] are actually going to get college credits."
In fact, according to him, he walked on the court as a freshman, but walked off the court as a senior with a double major. He now even plans on graduating in May. "I'll be the first in my family to walk" he said. "Everyone thought that it was going to be my older brother, but after last night, he doesn't have a chance of catching me" he went on. As one might expect, other players were equally excited about their academic windfall.
However, surprisingly University of Montana administrators and coaches were equally excited. When asked about the credits being awarded, one high-ranking administrator commented that "[t]he University of Montana is committed to providing the highest quality of education possible, and we are open to thinking outside the box. The schooling the Orange gave us was world class! We expect our academic ranking to improve by at least 10-15 places next year because of this alone!"
At that point, a source associated with the basketball program who wished to not be named interjected and said "[i]t's also great for the basketball team! Even though all our players are graduating, many are going to gad school here at Montana, so they are still eligible to play next year. Furthermore, we can now look recruits in the eye and tell them that we are serious about making sure they get an excellent education while they are here. The recruits need look no further than across their living room and see me. The Orange put on such a good clinic that I really feel that I learned a lot and even grew as a coach. Being able to give the kids a tangible example of how the University of Montana improves lives will be a huge edge on the recruiting trail." Several sources associated with the
Sources associated with the Syracuse basketball program were "just glad that [they] could help."

RE: BREAKING NEWS
USC is rumored to be hot and heavy after Dixon and if I were the Trojan brass, or some other extremely well-heeled school, and I was serious about winning, I would offer Dixon a boatload of cash to come and save my program. He is straight up a helluva strategist. I can count on one hand the number of times I have left a Pitt game believing that Dixon had been out-flanked. It just almost never happens. FAR more often than not, the dude figures out a way to win or at least take the game to the wire. It's positively unbelievable.
Now, I can also tell you that I often leave Pitt games bemoaning the obvious lack of athleticism and scorers but rarely is it a question of strategy. If Dixon can ever find a great recruiter or two, as he once had with Slice Rohrsson, he could win a whole string of national championships.
I was just sent this by a friend under the heading, "Sound Familiar?" Apparently, a local columnist agrees with my long-held assessment. I have been beating this drum since the night tiny Marquette out of C-USA bounced us from the NCAAs way back in 2003 with a scrappy but relatively unknown guard named Dwyane Wade. We couldn't handle him either and at the time nobody could figure out why? The next year Kent State beat us with some power forward named Antonio Gates.
It's a talent issue pure and simple. Always has been.

RE: BREAKING NEWS
FUN FACT OF THE DAY
The entire east coast-west coast rap feud of the 90's started over an argument between Tupac and Biggie over who was better in basketball Syracuse or Cal. Tomorrow at 9:40 ET on Cal's turf, Syracuse will have an opportunity to prove Biggie right and "hit 'em up."
By the way, to any west coast readers: that's right, I jacked your song/lyrics. What are you going to do about it?

NZM - Pittsburgh
March 12, 2013
It has been confirmed that the University of Pittsburgh Panther’s shocking upset at the hands of Wichita State University in the first round of the NCAA’s “March Madness Tournament” was intentional. According to my unnamed source familiar with the University of Pittsburgh's athletic department, the game was thrown in an effort to protest the BIG EAST’s refusal to share Pitt’s previously accrued NCAA tournament credits with the university. When asked to elaborate on the situation, the source simply replied “suck on that, UCONN!”

Of the 15 schools in the new ACC lineup (including Notre Dame and Louisville), 7 of them are farther west than Pitt, and 7 are farther east.
Thanks Wedge. for making this point...

Remind me. What's Dixon's NCAA tourney record again?
BTW, John Calipari is 2-8 vs. Bobby Huggins...

SYRACUSE INVESTIGATION WIDENS
NZM - Bay Area
March 12, 2013
It has been confirmed that the NCAA's investigation of Syracuse University has expanded. NCAA authorities were able to confirm that the NCAA, in conjunction with the California Fish and Wildlife Service, is investigating allegations that the Syracuse University basketball team killed one or more bears last Saturday night, despite not having appropriate state-issued permits. The alleged killing(s) took place at a NCAA-sanctioned March Madness basketball event.
Syracuse officials have refused to comment on the matter.

My response was for your fellow Mountaineer who thinks that extending the winningest coach in NCAA history for the first 10 years is somehow ridiculous. That record was built in arguably the toughest league in the NCAA. Dixon has overachieved in the regular season but underachieved in March. That is hardly a good reason to get rid of a coach that has winning records against several hall of fame coaches (yours included). Especially when you consider, that most of the time Dixon was playing with lesser talented teams while beating them. Dixon needs to recruit better. This year in particular, there were a bunch of underachievers on the team, starting with Trey Woodall. It sucks that we lost to Witchita State, but sh...tuff happens. We have some really good talent coming back next year, but we need better production out of the 3 & 4 positions. Jamie is still a work in progress but his good vastly outweighs his bad. Every time there is an opening out west his name gets mentioned, so somebody thinks he is a good coach.
