If the new conference has the same agenda on the academic side as the BE did; then USM and Marshall will not be asked to join.

Obviously, with the invites that were made, academics is not a criterion. Some top notch and some regular old "State U" quality.

Academics was part of it, which is why USM and Marshall don't come up; but Tulsa and UMass do.
Academics are why Marshall is a non-starter and isn't in consideration. USM is fine academically. Lack of financial resources will be their challenge.

"GTFOH with that bull. We already won a share of the Big East title twice, when this was a real conference. UConn is a real state flagship land grant university, not a 3,000 strong small liberal arts college. Tulsa has no chance of ever being equal to UConn in anything."

HartfordHusky - I recognize you got trolled by Panic but I'm going to save and repost your ridiculous post when we hang a half a hundred on UConn in football and Danny Manning's BB team runs you off the floor twice in 2015.

UMass by far has the highest ceiling of the candidates we've discussed and are a rival for UConn. That's why I want them. At the same time, I hope we get out of this joke of a conference soon, which would be before they get their legs in football. So, I understand if nobody wants to do anything for our benefit.

I get that you're mad bc the Big East isn't what it used to be, but...

Everyone here knows we would have clowned UConn in football this year.

You have to play the game to know for sure. UConn has beaten a few squads in football over the years that everyone assumed would "clown us". We managed to beat Louisville at their place last season. UConn is not a powerhouse football program but we are far from a joke.

I have no problem with Tulsa. I'm sure its a fine university and I respect the quality of your athletic department.

Trolls, just keep whining like a bunch of red a** punks but we will be there soon enough and you can bring your big market program to our little market City for a humbiling dose of reality soon enough.

Everyone knows Tulsa is leaving our whole City/State knows. Our BBall program is in the midst of transition. The CUSA is already a fore thought in our fans minds, we know Memphis BBall is way ahead of our program right now. The CUSA did not put many resource and planning behind their tourney here in Tulsa. It is widely known they just put it in Tulsa as a slap in Memphis' face for leaving the conference. People here understand why the tourney was placed here and with all the factors, citizens and fans didn't waste there time or money. Sad but true. Furthermore, none of the other University's brought any large number of fans either so don't sit and blame Tulsa.

We have SMU and Tulane. How the hell is long term growth supposed to happen if we keep adding little schools? I can see a point in time where UMass draws 40k a game. I cannot picture this for Tulsa.

Also it was the beginning spring break for the school so we had the majority of our students go home and abroad.

Not to harsh anyone's mellow but we realized at the tourney that Tulsa has played in almost every single conference championship game this year and we have one the majority of them. (oddly enough we keep playing UCF????)

Even in basketball where we've had a team that's been injured all season (Rashad Smith who is quite possibly our second best player played 3 games this season.) We managed to get closer to winning the tournament than any team who is already going to the big east outside of Memphis or has been mentioned as a possibility. It's just kind of sad that people cry about how small of a market TU is each year when we've outperformed the majority of our conference season to season in various sports.

It's funny that the conference we're most likely moving into adds several more schools on the eastern seaboard to the one's we already play... You all better watch out because you're all in Hurricane Alley come 2015 03-wink

And the” invisible hand” has just landed on the real reason for all the Tulsa bashing on this board – It is the fear of some that we will (in the case of some continue to) dominate the conference and thus prevent them from ever being invited to one of the big 5. The irony is if more of the teams in this new whatever its going to be called would make the commitment and focus on their programs like we are doing this new conferences could very quickly separate itself from the MW and displace the ACC at least in football. Here are the facts about Tulsa. We are not even close to as some keep saying “peaking.” In fact the truth is we are just beginning our rise. Here are some facts about Tulsa for objective minds.
1. We are the smallest (private) school playing D1 football. But we have amazing resources. Check out our endowment. If we keep winning we will always have the money we need.
2. We have long and storied traditions in Football and Basketball.
3. We have excellent and every day improving facilities both for athletic training and events and for offering recruits a very attractive lifestyle on campus.
4. We have great coaches. Our football coach who is not going anywhere for a long time and our basketball coach that won’t leave until he has finished the job he accepted of getting us back to where we were a little over a decade ago.
5. It is true our demanding academics sometimes limit our recruiting options but we have a whole lot to offer the right kids.
6. Because of our location we have plenty of great athletes especially football players from which to recruit within a tank of gas.
7. Unlike many schools in the east we are located in the middle of a dynamic and growing city.
Admittedly, our one negative is that some of the very things that make us unique also create attendance issues. But stability in the AD office, better marketing and the continued growth of the Tulsa metro area along with continued winning will significantly improve our attendance. And rest assured we will continue to win in whatever conferences we find ourselves. We are not going to draw 50K for a long time but 30K in football and 8k in bb is just around the corner. We finished 25th in the coaches poll last year – we will do better next year.
To those of you not campaigning against us I apologize for the rant – I know I just got trolled.
