Yeah, you have to wonder how much of this anti-Memphis, anti-Conference USA bias gets picked up by members of the Selection Committee from listening to the media slowleak hacks.

We deserve a 6 which means we get an 8. So to speak...

The ONLY reason I can see, if they give us a #5, is we'd face Ole Miss. MTSU or Davidson would be sort of welcomed.

RE: **Official "what seed will the Tigers receive tomorrow?" poll
Part of the issue with seeding is what is happening to teams around us on the S-curve. We haven't been helped a lot this week with that. Creighton won the MVC. North Carolina makes it to the ACC finals. Notre Dame won two games in the Big East tourney. VCU and Butler didn't get knocked out early in the A10. I think that is why we are probably headed for a 7. I think we deserve a 6, but a 7 is most likely.

I have to agree with the TV guide, I am perplexed on how in the world USM is a top 50 RPI team with their best win being Denver?! They are scrappy but their talent level is really poor and they simply are outmanned against any good teams.

RE: **Official "what seed will the Tigers receive tomorrow?" poll
i think a useful thing for pundits to do is a thought experiment on Memphis seed. If we have 1 loss only, we are a 1 seed.
What is our seed with 2 losses and a 4-2 top 50 record? a 1 or 2 seed.
What is our seed with 3 losses? Per Palm, an 8? I have no idea. It's hard to believe that 2 losses to very good teams can take you from a 1 to a 7 or 8 seed, or that 1 loss takes you from 2 to 8. Also, it's unlikely that any team in the 7 or 8 spot would be a 1 or 2 seed if they changed 1 or 2 losses into wins on the schedule. It would indicate that a 7 or 8 is too low.
of course, it's a thought experiment so no tv pundit can do it, unfortunately

They are a solid team. I think they are as much a tournament quality team as UTK, Mississippi, Caltucky, Alabama, Virginia, Iowa, UMass, MTSU, etc. However, as you point out, they do not have the top 50 wins. That is what is hurting them.
As for their RPI, it is pretty simple. USM played 32 games this season against Division 1 opponents. Of those 32, they played 21 away from home. That is way more than normal for schools from the top 12-15 conferences. Because they played 21 games away from home and went 13-8 in those games, their RPI is good. Plus they have just one bad loss (@ #208 Marshall). If they had not lost that Marshall game and had beaten us down in Hattiesburg, I think they would be a lock. But, they didn't do that and therefore they are NIT bound.

A 6 seed in Austin for Memphis would be awesome. It would be like 1995 all over again.
Please let them play in Austin! If so, I'm there!

Looks like the vast majority of us are expecting a 6 or 7. If those people give us an 8 or 9, they will be sending a clear message.

We had fallen almost to an average of an 8 seed on there a week or so ago. Have been moving up slowly since. Sitting at 7.25 right now. It will be interesting to see if by tomorrow we are 6 something in the average.

I think it will most likely be a 7. I am holding out hope for a 6. Also wouldn't be shocked if we get shafted with an 8. A 9 or below would be the biggest slap in the face in the history of seeding teams.
Exactly this. Thanks for saving me all that typing.
