You had to excuse Davis, he needed to start looking for players for the next season at that point.

I haven't heard the Gerald Wallace story before. Care to tell it?

Andy Kennedy recruited and believed he had firm commitments from Wallace and Mario Austin up until the morning of signing day. Minds suddenly changed. As far as what else changed hands, I don't know how much of what was said at the time was based in fact and how much was simply raw anger. Knowing the record of programs those two did sign with, it's not hard to connect the dots.

I know that we were very late in the process as it related to the recruitment of Wallace. Andy did his best to try to get him to sign with UAB. I also heard a similar story about Austin.

You also have to excuse Davis from ever being unable to describe what UAB is (which Haase does here and is crucial to building a program), because he decided what kind of style he would play the next year based on who he got to transfer in over the summer. Like all the great coaches.

And once he did, he made the player fit his offense.
