(03-07-2013 06:05 PM)Fresno St. Alum Wrote: (03-07-2013 06:02 PM)HawaiiMongoose Wrote: The party may not be over yet. Supposedly the MWC deal with CBS allows the conference to sign additional TV contracts with TWO other networks. ESPN is just one. A third deal with NBC or Fox for tier 1/tier 2 (national/regional) broadcast rights could still be in the works.
Plus the MWC appears to have arranged for its members to retain their tier 3 (local) broadcast rights. This will be an additional revenue source for most MWC schools.
So it may be too soon to compare MWC and A-12 TV revenue.
Don't you guys make those most out of all of us off your tier 3? I know our tier 3 are on comcast sports california.
Hawaii's current tier 3 deal pays $2.5 million per year. In exchange for that, the broadcast partner -- Oceanic Cablevision, a Time Warner Cable subsidiary -- gets the rights to show seven UH football games via PPV. This is doable because the national networks usually show no more than five. Oceanic sells the PPV packages for $450 a pop to its cable TV subscribers; individual games go for $65.
In addition, Oceanic gets the rights to show over 100 non-football events on its dedicated HD 7x24 UH sports channel, which all Oceanic subscribers receive as part of their basic cable service. That includes almost all home men's and women's basketball games and men's and women's volleyball matches, and many home soccer, softball and baseball games. Even water polo gets some coverage. Oceanic earns good advertising revenue from these broadcasts.
It pays (for UH) to be the only team in town.

Fresno-CU is almost certainly a Pac-12 Networks game, given that the Pac home games ESPN/ABC and Fox have to choose from on that Saturday include Tennessee-Oregon, Ohio State-Cal, BC-USC, and Wisconsin-ASU.

Yes. It's for everything. See McMurphy's follow up tweet I just posted.
no it is not for everything
CCG game still to be negotiated and there are about 35 MWC football and quite a few bb games still unsold. (doubt those will bring much though). Might just be returned to the schools for them to sell. My guess is we match the BE 20 million mark or barely exceed it.
CBS has about 12-15 games
ESPN has up to 22 games
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/...ng-sources
Add in the tweet from Fowler that MWC will announce Tier 2 TV deal shortly
Tweet @JFowlerCBS- MWC says secondary TV rights deal to be completed very soon- even within the next few days
So basically MWC has signed a deal for 18 million for Tier 1 rights to CBS and ESPN to include approximately 37 FB games and an unknown number of BB games. This does not include the CCG but CBS does hold the rights to that so only limited negotiation are possible

Not to nitpick, but A12 is at 22M. 20 for ESPN, and 2 for CBS.

So what do we(MWC) win if we beat you in overall TV contract? ....nothing the bragging will be from the conf who has the team in the BCS game.

The tweet from Fowler was before the news came out. All that is left is 23 games give or take 1-2- with none of the upper tier games at all. Kind of tough to see them getting more than 2-3 million total for a package of those games. (remember of the 35 that you mention, 12 are the FCS beatdowns that you don't televise.

Let's be real here. Of the other games- roughly 35 games left- 10 are FCS dog games that aren't televised ever. So that's down already to 25. Some of these 25 are games like NM St @ New Mexico, UTSA @ New Mexico that won't get picked up either. Probably like 7-8 at minimum like that. So at best there's only 17-18 games left that anyone would even remotely want- and some of those are the poor conference games that generally no one is going to want. So it's WAY overstating how much volume the MWC has left available for sale- a lot of the volume left is very undesirable.

I agree, all the remaining football content isn't worth much. It is third tier. The second tier will be whatever ESPN sells to NBC, Altitude, FSN, and whoever else. The ESPN deal pays for the remaining first tier and the second tier games. I don't think ESPN will have space for 22 games though, so they will reduce their cost by selling games.

not overstating a thing, you're anti MWC so you look for ways to drum up sh*t? The rest are for sale, is that wrong? no. how many get bought I don't know, you don't know. Subtract the FCS games, you're not wrong on Fresno's end comcast doesn't show ours vs fcs. I don't know if the other schools like BSU are so into fb that their local affiliate will pick up the UT Martin game, I hear they will. Like Mongoose said Hawaii has a great tier 3 deal. Pretty sure unm will be able to sell the unm/nmsu game to their locals even if they suck.
Maybe commuter bob or someone will know this. Is it true that 86 mill is going to be split 5 ways among the left out conferences? that's 17.2 mill per conf. That's where the bonuses will be paid in the MWC. Plus whoever gets the BCS game out of the leftover 5 gets another 17 mill on top of that?

No you won't.
You keep failing to mention how much of that money will go to Boise State.
And I may be missing something but when I read it the Big East had a ton more coverage than the MWC.
MWC has sold 37 of its games the rest are for sale still. A12 has 65 games and they have none for sale.
Boise along w/ anyone else playing on espn or espn2 will be paid the bonus out of the bcs money paid to the leftout 5 from what I hear.
So it's WAY overstating how much volume the MWC has left available for sale- a lot of the volume left is very undesirable.
not overstating a thing, you're anti MWC so you look for ways to drum up sh*t? The rest are for sale, is that wrong? no. how many get bought I don't know, you don't know. Subtract the FCS games, you're not wrong on Fresno's end comcast doesn't show ours vs fcs. I'm just realistic- for a national tier 1/tier 2 contract- most if not all of those games you're talking about won't be picked up. It definitely won't be a big bump up in the money. It's a lot of tier 3 games. For some worth some- others not much at all.
The 86 mil is split 5 ways- and it does include the BCS game payment.

it's better than what you had- but nothing to write home about. Nearly half of the exposures are CBS SN which isn't great by any stretch of the imagination. CBS just hasn't put much into that network- despite having some good properties like the A10 and MWC basketball for 2.

we do well w/ tier 3 b/c of comcast CA. Just no fcs games all others were on. Oregon was on P12 I don't get that ch.
86 split 5 ways but includes the BCS team so how much extra does that conf get of the payout? There's no incentive if we all get 17.2 either way. Does that conf get 34 and 52 split 4 ways or what?
