MSU AD... Expansion is not on the radar
http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130...ear-future
excerpt:
Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis said Wednesday that while the number of 14 is "awkward" when it comes to scheduling, he doesn't see further expansion coming anytime soon to the Big Ten.
"We're not in a position right now where we're looking to expand," Hollis said. "There are not teams that are being talked to or discussed. It is off the radar right now from Big Ten athletic directors and the conference office. We're trying to figure out, more importantly, the integration of Rutgers and Maryland. Our focus and attention right now is in that direction."
He also would rather play 9 conference games instead of 10.

Cue the WVU conspiracy theorists to claim this is all smoke and mirrors and attack Hollis' credibility while quoting mhveer and The Dude in the same sentence.

But when the OSU AD says the opposite you guys don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth? Can't have it both ways.

RE: MSU AD... Expansion is not on the radar
The B1G did well for itself picking up Nebraska, Maryland and Rutgers. Those schools own their state athletically.
Everyone else has ?? surrounding their status as a candidate.
Virginia?? UVA only has 14,500 students undergraduate. They don't have the typical 40,000 student B1G level enrollment. It was a stretch for them to even get to 60,000 seats (was only 28k in 1982)
UNC?? Only 18,600 students and another 3-4 hours south of UVA. It sounds like they want to stay in the same conference as Duke and the B1G isn't the type to be accommodating for a rival.
Missouri?? This school just made a move to the SEC. Aside from Boise State and TCU's flirts with the BE, no other schools have made 2 moves in this realignment cycle.
Texas?? Historically this school has always thrived as a big fish in a small pond (SWC, current B12). They've lost ground to TAMU in the SEC but would playing in the B1G be the right move for recruiting? Staying in a Texas based league for recruiting might be the way to go.
ND?? We've gone down this road here many times. They sat in the Big East for 20 years surviving expansion attempts by the B1G and now that the ACC is a big 15 member conglomerate with 1/2 former Big East schools they can pull the same number for 20 more years.
The B1G has made all the easy grabs already.

Off the radar until the Maryland/ACC lawsuit gets settled. Then they'll turn the radar back on.

All Hollis is saying is that he is out of the loop and Big 10 decision-makers don't really talk to him.

Think about it in 3 years time the conference, which usually moves at a glacial pace, went from 11 to 14 adding Maryland, Nebraska and Rutgers. That's a lot to digest unless a really big fish wants in.

Re: MSU AD... Expansion is not on the radar
While I don't see the B1G expanding again until they have had time to fully integrate NB, MD, and Rutgers, I would point out that when Penn State was added, the Presidents issued the invite without even asking the ADs what they thought. ADs might have input, but they are not the decision makers.

RE: MSU AD... Expansion is not on the radar
Guys, it isn't all necessarily connected as if Delany has his hand up each man's backside and guides them out to the podium to speak for their selected time period.
A LOCAL reporter asked the man a question and he answered it with a very open ended answer. How is it even worthy of debating along the lines of whether or not it actually signals anything. He practically said nothing at all of any real value and we have seen these kinds of statements before movement already.
It could mean either thus it means nothing. He just doesn't want his name on the record as having said there is movement happening. That could mean nothing is going to happen or that he simply doesn't want to risk saying that something is happening.
Hilarious.
