Even though the loss set us back a little bit, this loss will FIRE up the team again!! Bring on the Tournament!!!

That is possibly true in a motivating way. I would have much prefered losing one of the next games for that purpose though and still end with a 6 seed. Now we may be hot and motivated and end up playing the exact wrong matchup.
We will see how things play out.

Just made it harder to advance in the NCAA tourney dropped at least 1-2 seeds.

This was a horrible loss. Not good in any way.

I hate to lose but at least now the talk of the longest winning streak will be gone and they can just focus on playing and winning.

Better to lose to Xavier than to any CUSA team. Overconfidence is what lost us this game.... Winning is hard.....

I'd rather have this loss than be overconfident heading into the Tournament!! Bring on the Tournament!!! WoooHoooo!!!

We flunked the eye test. No way to change that. We now are looking at #8 seed if we win out. This was a terrible night. Losing and how we lost cost us big time.

The bad thing is this game could mess with the teams head. I think they could lose one of the next 2 .

I can take a loss just thought this game meant alot as far as seeding . Win on the road against a good team in a top league.

I certainly don't see that happening, but this loss was in no way positive. We could not afford to lose the rest of the season. We did and we are looking at a much worse seed.

I'm glad the win streak is over. Yeah it's nice to win all those games in a row, but you don't get an award for that. Now we refocus on the bigger picture.

We've said for years when people question our CUSA winning streaks that we have to play who we schedule...and that we cannot control if CUSA stinks or not...we have to go out and play the games.
In a similar manner...we cannot control our seeding anymore...so we just gotta lace them up and play the games they schedule for us in the tourney.
If this team can get its head on straight...we can beat anyone in the country. Any seed.
I still believe in this team...call it the Charlie Brown Syndrome if you must...I have to much faith in my team to give up on them now.

This type of loss was bound to happen. You could tell that Memphis was the better team but they came out with the "we are better than them so this is going to be an easy win" attitude and got punched in the mouth. Better it happen now than in tournament.

I’ve posted this before. No matter how you sugarcoat it there is nothing good about a loss. Sure you are going to lose but it isn’t a good thing. No doubt this one in particular will result in a lower NT seed and places even more pressure on the team to win out, including the C-USA tournament.

Terrible loss.

I get what you are saying that "any" loss is "bad", but that's not how it works with the committee. Memphis still doesn't have any "bad losses", but they don't have any "good wins" either (in the eyes of most).

A "bad" loss is Kansas losing @ TCU, or Michigan losing @ Penn State. Both of these teams are Top 5 in the nation at the time, and both lose on road to a team that was yet to win in its conference. That's a "bad" loss. Kansas and Michigan got the bottom of the barrels "best shot" on their home floor (their Super Bowl if you will) and LOST when under that pressure.

In contrast, in our conference we get "every" teams best shot since we are the big dog, and we have yet to get a "bad loss" such as a TCU or Penn State. I'd say that's pretty impressive. Finishing 16-0 (3-0) in CUSA IS an achievable goal, and not something that happens on a yearly basis. Memphis has that chance. So enjoy it while you can.

The difference in Kansas/Michigan teams and Memphis? Those teams get to play in conferences where the next game is against a Top 10 team, or Top 25 team, so the "bad" loss is overlooked as they get chance after chance at "good wins". Memphis doesn't have that luxury... they get 3-5 games a year of this caliber, and when you don't play them consistently it's tough to win them. The Xavier game was one of those games.

We still beat Harvard (tourney team), Southern Miss (bubble team) twice, and Tennessee. Tennessee will be a Top 50 RPI win for us by end of the season as they are up to RPI 52 now after beating Florida. Memphis is not a bad team, just had a bad game. I'd rather they get it out of their system now than in the tourneys. DJ and Geron were upset and embarassed by the loss, so they won't come out flat again the rest of the year in my opinion. If we get good tourney matchups, we could do as much damage as any other team.
