What I can tell you is each one of them will realize CUSA gets bigger, faster, and harder hitting recruits. Even LA Tech will have to learn that.
Fedora and USM quickly realized how much faster and stronger MTSU was in the 2009 NOLA Bowl. ECU the same this year against LaLa. There is very little difference in the talent level between CUSA and the SunBelt.
Comparing NOLA Bowl records, the SunBelt is 7-5, CUSA is 4-5
Your QB killed us that day and have only given props to how well prepared you guys were with executing that victory. (those QB draws....geez, he killed us) MTSU was the better team that day. The "Blindford D" (in reference to the shittiest DC we have ever had...fkn Bradford) never had a chance. We got outplayed and out-coached that day.
Having said that, I was even more impressed with the MTSU fan base. They were many in numbers and were as classy as any I have encountered. Sitting in the 'W' bar hours before the game, my group sat with some of your fans having drinks and learning about the history of each others school. There is something to be said for humility and respect. Your fan base demonstrated both.
I really like you guys as a new member and there is no question in my mind that you compete for championships in CUSA. There is a passion and pride that you bring to the table. This is something some of the departing schools did not.
Being hungry makes one appreciate the meal at the table...regardless of what is served.
Do you really think Bradford was worse than Tommy West?
The year before 12-2, we lost games that we scored 43, 44, and 50 points in. West could at least claim offensive ineptitude.
Xactly! Those were painful games to sit through. His simple minded scheme playing 8 yards off the line on the outside was mindnumbing. We may have blitzed 20 times in 3 years.
Hell, you know when Maryland fires you after one year (why they hired him is beyond me), ya ain't good.
I never factored TW into the equation as I put that blame solely on E0-12loss.

If Thompson starts my prediction is 4-8 and Mac gets fired. But 2-2 out of conference and losses to Tulsa, Tech and Southern Miss. I think Miss will be formidable this year. We're quite good at home, so I think we beat Rice, Ball, UTEP, UTSA are definite wins. People forget we came close to beating K-State, young D and a strong stable of RBs with a great line. Problem remains QB and WRs but Berglund should fix QB issues.
I hope your prediction becomes reality, except for the part about beating Rice. UNT has tremendous unrealized potential. I would be very happy if year in and year out UNT was posting better records and way better attendance than SMU. It would be a huge lift for C-USA.

I love UNT, but I don't think we are ready to compete at the top of C-USA. We are upgrading at every skill position (Berglund-QB, Pegram-RB, & Terrell-WR), but we will still lack depth. Injuries happen every season, and without more depth it will be hard for North Texas to finish with a winning record next season.
McCarney is building a better program at UNT. With the BE falling on hard times, I believe the Texas programs in C-USA will have a recruiting advantage over SMU and Houston. I don't think recruits will like the way the BE is covered (or not covered) by ESPN. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

I'll be disappointed if we don't win C-USA next year. We return the bulk of our team and made some gains on the recruiting front. We return our OL, solid QB, 1000 yard rusher, and arguably the best player in the league with WR Justin Hardy. A lot of ECU fans are scared of expectations, I'm not. With our schedule next year, it's our best chance in years to have a shot at running the table.
I actually think we will be favored at NCSU and VT at home could easily be a tossup. The tough one is @UNC, that's where we will be an underdog and need to pullout an upset.
