Ours stand on the seats. The KBS student section is more of a mosh pit than a seating area.

Cool story bro...

03-lmfao Are you jealous that an FCS school puts your attendance to shame?

Not even remotely. If we were winning 12 games a year, we'd be packing them in as well. When you move up to FBS and 8 wins is a good season, you'll see your attendance drop.

I just thought the mosh pit suggestion was comical. We've all seen rowdy student sections, I've never been to an App State game, if we ever found ourselves playing one another, a trip to Boone would be intriguing, but not a can't miss trip. So having never been to Boone I cannot comment on the quality of your student section, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt, based on attendance and based on the winning percentage you guys put up, that you have a very rowdy student section, but me personally...mosh pit, that isn't a word I'd ever want used to describe MT's student section.

Not comical because I don't believe you that the student section is good, comical because I would laugh my ass off at any student section that even remotely resembled a mosh pit.

So you have a bunch of shirtless guys pushing each other? Punching each other?

Cool story bro.

Don't call it a mosh pit, it's not a most pit. Call it a rowdy student section. A bunch of students who jump to zombie nation does not equal a mosh pit.

I agree, sure would not describe App State's student section a mosh pit. Far from it. If you took a bunch of jet engines and turned them on full blast, pack in 3 to 4 times as many students as there are seats and drown out the band and the other fans would think you would call that what some have the App State student Thunder Boom of Doom section.

Map out the seating areas where people normally stand and where they don't. Then ask fans to respect the two sections. I understand older people or those with mobility issues needing to sit, and they should be accommodated. But overall, standing fans are usually the best fans.

Hyperbole: noun Rhetoric .
1.
obvious and intentional exaggeration.
2.
an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally, as “to wait an eternity.”

Usually, standing fans are not paying attention to the game. They are there to see and be seen, it becomes a party area more than a fan area. They cheer when they're told to cheer. I've been there, I know how it works. Standing fans are usually the ugly fans.

That being said, however, I'm glad they're there. It does make the game more fun. But I usually sit because I paid for the seat and I don't want to waste my money by not putting my firm yet delicate hind quarters on that comfortably hard plastic. Hmmmmm.

I'm 57 years old. I have season tickets. I stand. (and it's not in the student section, either)

Not only do I own a dictionary, believe it or not, I actually am quite familiar with hyperbole and it's frequent usage by sports fans, especially on the internet.

I suppose initially, more than anything, I was curious why someone would purposely liken their student section to a mosh pit. What about that sounds cool or impressive?

Utah State's basketball student section is impressive, one of the most impressive in all of college sports IMO.

Like a good mosh pit, if there is such a thing, it's large.

Like a good mosh pit, if there is such a thing, it's loud.

Like a good mosh pit, if there is such a thing, it's high energy.

But unlike any mosh pit I've ever witnessed, it's highly coordinated. That is what a good student section is. So since we're in to using definitions, here's a couple for mosh pit(from Urban Dictionary)

a thing that takes place at metal concerts in which people basically kick the living **** out of each other.

they kick ass! often have cages round the sides for injured or overly violent people. never go in if you can't stand up for your self, you'll lose a leg or something! also be prepared to lose stuff eg. shoes, mobile phone, glasses ... not from people nicking them, but moshing to hard haha

no blood, no mosh pit

when at a concert, somebody turns around at you and suddenly pushes you for no reason so then you go along with it and hit the other guy next to you, resulting in this whole fight where no one is even paying attention to the music.

If that was what you were trying to liken your student section to, even in hyperbole, I repeat...

LT Smith Stadium has a (in my opinion) nasty habit of the student section standing up for nearly the entire game, many times on top of their seats. This causes everyone behind to be forced to stand up to see the game and if you want to sit down for a rest and watch the game, you're screwed.

Any other teams/stadiums have this problem?

Afterthought: E.A. Diddle Arena also occasionally has the same issue with students standing up for extended periods of time.

I sit with my son (student) in the student section at Western and I honestly don't have a clue as to what you're talking about.

I have season tickets in section 230 but never use them because I like sitting in section 130 or 131 (both between the 45-50) of the student section. I can't remember a game where I had to stand for even most of it to see over students below me. Close game yeah they stand more often but not on the bleachers...at least not the top 10 rows.

Most of the time we are standing, not constantly, but up and down..up most of the time. So if this is a problem for you then maybe you and your girlfriend should sit up a few rows higher.

My personal opinion...

I wish the students would stand, jump, shout, cuss, scream, go crazy, act crazy for the full 60 minutes like the whole stadium was in the last 10 minutes of the ULM game. In my 45 years (since I was 8) of watching WKU football I don't recall it ever being that loud.

Here's a question. Do people, for the most part GROWNUPS, really, really, really, care, if someone gives them "rep" points, positive, or negative? Do you get some kind of a reward for them. You know like in kindergarten when you got 10 stars the teacher gave you a reward.

RE: Standing at Football Stadiums
I think that outside of some major programs students have become to disaffected to demonstrate that kind of discipline for a whole 3 hours. I have this problem because I stand and scream a lot at basketball and football games and since I am over 40 I am stuck in the wine and cheese crowd. LOL. So people behind me get upset. Of course I get upset at people sitting down on 3rd down. The worst is seeing students at MBB games behind the basket on their cell phones websurfing and facebooking in the middle of a tight game. Our students are much better at football games. So if the worst we can say is that students stand in the student section, that aint bad.

Montana has it figured out, they removed the seats from the student section so you MUST stand.
