A one bid conference?

Annoying to me. I think USM should be in, not out.

The perception that CUSA isn't that good in basketball keeps getting fed by the talking heads. It's also interesting that the projections can be so wildly different.

Southern Miss not getting in is like saying TCU should be a 2-seed because they beat Kansas.

USM doesn't deserve a bid unless we beat Memphis or win the CUSA Tourney. 0 wins against top 50 teams will not get you a bid.

This is the type of stuff that aggravates me about perception in college athletics.

Let's say it plays out that way. Next year, people, won't remember USM was a tough out. They'll say USM didn't make the tourney, and they'll say USM played in a weak conference.

Lame.

10 road wins to date....means a lot...is just too early to predict this stuff.....many things can happen from today

Exactly. Best non-conference win is Denver, best road win is @Georgia. USM as scheduled 2 D-II so you are essentially 18-6.

Alot like Charlotte except conference has provided us with much better opportunities for tournament quality wins.

I do hope you guys get a bid 04-cheers

We've only played one top 50 team at home. Hell, we've only played 8 of our 24 games at home. With only eight home games, 18-6 is very impressive, especially with a top 110 schedule.

We have more road wins (9) than total home games (8). Plus, we have 2 neutral court wins.

true but the name of the game today isn't actually as much about wins and losses as it is the political game. You have to get the media attention and be able to sell your program to them and if you don't it doesn't matter how good you are, they aren't going to give in to your ability until they absolutely can't ignore you. I think USM might be better served in ways, to just get in the NIT win some games in it if not the whole thing, and gain the experience of it. I would imagine if we make the NCAA we would get paired with a high seed and while we might pull the upset, it would be more likely we would not. We might get to play more games in the NIT.

Only way Conf USA can 'sniff" @ 2 NCAA bids this year
is 2 have some one other than Memphis win the conference tourney.

I think Southern Miss is deserving. And they are 38 in the RPI, which means they have a shot.

However, Pomeroy ranks Southern Miss 54th, and Sagarin rates them 60th. They have 1 Top 100 win (Denver) all season. I can understand why some basketball snobs think they might get snubbed.

I think those rating systems are ignoring the fact that we've played 16 of our 24 D1 games away from home.

A certain Larry Eustachy rant seems relevant...

If we lose once more in the regular season, or zero more times, I think we're in.

Your RPI certainly reflects that fact (road wins count more than road losses, home wins count less than home losses).

But no, Pomeroy is based on margin of victory and factors home court advantage in. And Sagarin is 50% based on margin of victory with home court advantage factored in. So they both account for the home/away disparity.

Computers factor it in. Idiot bloggers do not. That was Eustachy's point in his rant.

I struggle with both USM and Memphis being "in" on almost all of the "experts" brackets prior to our game. In fact, many of them had USM as a higher seed. There had to be a winner and a loser when they played, yet one of them is no longer included in some "experts" list. That's a little hard to get my head around.

We gotta beat UTEP and Memphis to be seriously considered for an at-large. I think we are something like 0-7 vs. the Top 100. That will not fly with the committee.

NCAA will have no sympathy for bubble teams who schedule DII teams. At the end of the day USM will have no to blame but themselves.
