He's the nicest guy in the world...but he's just not a good basketball coach.

Orr will be back next year. The program has risen from where Dakich left it.

No, it hasn't. The 2010-11 Falcons had a worse RPI than all but one of Dakich's teams. BG currently sits at an RPI worse than it ever finished with Dakich, and there is no reason to think next year's team will be any better. The program got better in Orr's early years, but with Dakich's recruits.

IF he were to get fired, it would probably be when he has 1 year left on his contract, because if you go into your last year of your contract without an extension, it will be impossible to recruit and the coach will most likely know he's not wanted.

Next year is the final year of his contract. I don't see Orr stepping down and I do not see BG buying out the remaining year (unlike they did with Brandon - whole different scenario). That's the problem with contract extensions after wining a championship - one championship warranted (?) a two year extension of the contract (this year and next). We could have been playing for a new coach this year.

Yeah, they make more sense when a coach hasn't won any championships!

Orr isn't recruiting well. But past threads have suggested that this is common in the MAC and largely due to budgets. Is Orr being hamstringed by tight pursestrings?

If he only has one year remaining you almost have to fire him or extend him. Coaching in the last year of a contract makes it next to impossible to recruit.

Dakich coached his final season at BG without the benefit of a contract extension.

It's not like BG hasn't done this before.

And that proves his point, as Orr hasn't recruited worth a crap!

I don't know if he's recruited poorly or just done a poor job of developing talent. Other than that 6-10" pylon he recruited at the 5, we're undersized at every spot on the floor. 6-7 and 6-4 up front, 5-6 and 6-1 in the back. Our frontcourt doesn't move without the ball on offense...the guards dribble around and play catch for 25 seconds or so then throw up a shot or dump it to Calhoun so he can force something. It's excrutiatingly dull basketball to watch.

No offense but, that sounds like NIU's team. At least as far as the offense.

Yea and we are almost there...

For sure he gets next year. People have to remember Buffalo is missing their two top point guards to injury right now and in a ball movement offense that's death. The Bulls are just not built to play without a reliable PG.

Next year will be a talent pinnacle for UB, maybe the best team talent wise since 2005. If we don't dance I hope its because the season is a dumpster fire,. not because of a close conference title game.
