Yes and no. We're losing by a lot of points, but we're losing due to one or two crushing runs that turn on one or two possessions but then just go on and on. Haase showed a LOT better skill with TO-calling Wednesday night.

Yep. We've had several games where it's been a 4-8 minute stretch that has killed us. If we can avoid some of the skids we've had, we can beat anybody left on the schedule.

You can talk to Gorilla and Blazergreen and anybody else who believes the season is a lost cause.

The rest of us will choose to think this team can beat anybody on the schedule.

I started to reply on several posts, but I decided to consolidate here.

Many of us learned from Mike Anderson that you can have A LOT of turnovers and still win games playing fast. In exchange for the large numbers of turnovers, you have to have a lot of forced turnovers, rebounds, and a couple of guys that can drive to the basketball and score/get fouled. Our turnovers can be cut down some, but playing fast will always result in high numbers of turnovers. As a team, we lack the defensive intensity we had under both Davis (in slow ball) and Anderson (in fast ball).

I hope the defensive intensity gets better starting now (think of Squeaky), and I hope we get some players (a la PDIII, DeMario Eddins, Eli Millsap, etc.) that can drive/slash to the basket and score. Those things are lacking now and are necessary for our future success IMHO.

I'm definitely not the only one that has been unhappy with this team but I think you probably were the only one who thought point guard was the least of UAB's worries. The least? How about the biggest! The point of this entire thread, the most glaring weakness of the team, and it was the least of your worries. Belief can take you a long way but a little knowledge doesn't hurt.

Great post. Exactly what I've been saying concerning effort and intensity. You don't have to play perfectly if you bust your butt on the defensive end and crash the boards. Create some points off turnovers and the shots will start falling in the half-court.

RE: HCJH on The Zone @ 9AM
I know the history is not favorable with Memphis, but they can be had. They have struggled in almost every game they have played, yet have managed to win about 11 straight at this point. They can't hold leads, but their CUSA opponents have not been able to capitalize. I suspect they will lose at UTEP and maybe a few more.

However it has been decreed apparently by the basketball gods that we are to never beat them. It doesn't help us this year that we will be the last CUSA home game they have (until next year and they play the same teams and call them Big East games).

Again, I though TJ would convert over okay, Hoopy would develop, we would still have JT, and Q would progress as the season went on. I saw those 4 on the roster as guys capable of getting the ball up the court at a quickly, but under control.

I still contend that a lack of depth at the 4/5 is a huge issue this year. We are going to wind up having a game where Rucker and Fahro foul out, and then we'll see how good the team looks.

But I'm sure you've never been wrong when trying to assess something in your life. I'd be right my entire life if I could live it through retrospect. How many more times do you want to post about this? I can help out.

ATTENTION ALL BLAZERTALKERS: I DID NOT BELIEVE PG WAS GOING TO BE AN ISSUE FOR THIS UAB BASKETBALL TEAM, AND I WAS WRONG.

Something that might be interesting is to try Faz at 5, Williams at 4, Rucker at 3, Swing at 2, & TJ at 1.

Then again, the opposing team might match up with Rucker as he were playing the 4.

In that case, bring in Purifoy for Swing and force the other team to play us big.

We were about butt hurt big time the other night had Faz fouled out & we certainly can't get anything going with him resting on the bench, however he does need to rest periodically.

You brought me up. So I brought up an example of your knowledge of the game, in light of the thread topic. Don't be nasty and try to provoke if you don't want a response.

I brought you up(and Gorilla) because of your negative attitude toward this team and season.

And to try and determine my knowledge of the game off of one comment is pretty stupid. Again, there was a reason for my comment when it was made. But from now on I'll defer to your basketball expertise.

Yeah, probably so. But to label die-hard supporters, because they have vented their frustrations on this board, as "bad fans" is equally as stupid. How about a little less attacking and lead by example with a positive attitude towards fellow UAB fans?

I don't have a positive attitude towards fans who call the program trash.

I'm a fan. That's short for fanatic.

Keep your reality. I choose to believe.

If you want to spout off about reality, get it straight.

Reality is anyone can beat anyone.
