I live in Lafayette & there is no way even with a lot of support for lsua&m here - BR holds most of the control of tickets- Most establishments here do there best to support both schools! After attending both Nola Bowls I have come to realize that a portion of those 45-50 Cajun fans were state wide and not just from Lafayette which is what we want - to be accepted statewide first now on to a national scale!

It's been a while since we played Rice in football. We have had some great baseball and basketball games. As I stated, we have over 6,000 alums in Houston and our fans would definitely travel to Houston. We played UH a few years ago and beat them with their stud QB. We brought over 5,000 fans for that game. And, that was with a losing program. Imagine what that might be like today with our quickly growing fan base and for a conference games here vs Rice. Add 5,000 - 10,000 to your attendance instead of the couple of hundred that might typically travel from Florida or WV. In fairness, we can drive at a much lesser expense. Again, the value of a conference with a more regional base. If none of us are going to be in AQ conferences, why all the cross country teams and travel? I'm glad Boise State and SDSU are going back to the MWC. Western schools in the Big East made no sense. It's time to bring some sanity back to college football.

I think you have to work on the statewide thing first. I know one ULL fan up here....He owns a bar loaded with LSU paraphernalia.

The University has done a great job in marketing South LA - that's where the population is anyway! North LA is a different state! There is almost zero market for us up there b/t Ulm & tech but a lot of market here in the south!

Now that wasn't a very classy statement and as much as I like Tulane, I have to say this, I have been on Bourbon Street often in my nearly 60 years of life, and I can honestly say I have NEVER met a Tulane or at least one that said they were a Tulane fan. I once collected caps and while in New Orleans I decided to get a Tulane cap, I finally got one and I had to send off for it. I certainly wouldn't say such if I were a Tulane fan that shows so little class.

I agree, Tulane is better than that. I wish our Tulanian had not responded to a previous vitriolic post by responding with a caustic comment.

How is a statement of encounter an 'unclassy post'? Oversensitive pandas are oversensitive. If you haven't gotten the rib jabbin vibe of this thread then you came in grumpy. I have love for anyone that calls Louisiana home.

Ah yes my Redwolf friend but Bowl revenue trumps your trophies b/c we provide funds for all in the conference! Mere trophies cannot provide!

How about this: Stop causing confusion on the CUSA board by referring to your school as the University of Louisville, or UL. If you people at ULL are so insecure about your school that you won't use its proper and legal name, why would CUSA want anything to do with it?

I can assure you that we would have put 30-40,000 into the Liberty Bowl. Attendance inside the nest is not a problem for either school. You still have to prove you can do it outside the nest....and at some point prove that it's you and not Hud.

(Joking aside, I'm pretty certain you will travel very well and look forward to seeing it).

There are roughly 25,000 LSU season tickets sold each year in Lafayette. What they don't tell with the propaganda is that they are sold to businesses which hold roughly half of those numbers.

Yeah, really; and all those people at Nebraska-Lincoln need to do the same. Give Nebraska-Omaha its due. It's just pathetic.

Nebraska-Lincoln was founded as the "University of Nebraska" before Omaha existed. Lincoln is the Flagship school in Nebraska. ULL and ULM were given their names together with the agreement they would use the L and M or the Lafayette and Monroe. There is no flagship of the UL system but one school is going back on their agreement trying to make themselves sound as if they are.

I'm a younger Cajun fan, and grew up referring to the school as UL - as does everyone south of Alexandria. No one if trying to ruffle your feathers through the internet. My apologies for confusing so easily.

Agree 100%. I have the same problem with Southwest Texas State. Be proud of who you are instead of pretending to be something you are not.

I'm not ashamed of my school. I have tons of USL gear that I hang proudly. My degree says University of Louisiana at Lafayette - and I'm also proud of that. I think our city is one of the finest in the state, and I display it in extra large font size on my resume. It's just second nature for us to refer to ourselves as UL and is basically verbal short hand.

I'm not just going to start calling ourselves ULL and Louisiana Lafayette in everyday conversations because people are worried about us having some agenda of being the de facto flagship university of the UL system. Now, as far as branding our athletics teams as Louisiana - that is legal and I support it 100%.

The only way you're going to get us to refer to ourselves as ULL is to inject about 200,000 people into Lafayette with the sole purpose of saying ULL in every conversation for the next 10-15 years. It's ingrained into our culture, I'm evidence of that.
