2013 Lions Draft
Here's my mock draft
1st Pick Keenan Allen, WR Cal. Junior
2nd round Barret Jones, C Alabama (if he's still available). Riola is getting old.
3rd round Bennett Jackson, CB Notre Dame, junior
4th round William Gholston, DE MSU, junior. Surprisingly he's projected as a late 3rd or early 4th ground prospect.
5th Brian Winters OT Kent St.
6th round Tyrann Mathieu, CB LSU
7th round Sean Proger NIU DE
Free Agents
Kemil Ismail FS UCF
Dan ONeill WMU
Dan Conroy MSU K

RE: 2013 Lions Draft
I might vomit if we take a WR in the first round again.
Actually, I'd rather trade all of our draft picks for a whole new coaching staff.

They need a corner back first, then another after, Mr. Millen.

RE: 2013 Lions Draft
as much as we need a legit #2 for calvin, our need for the secondary is FAR greater.

I would vote strongly against that strategy. Unless he is a game changer like Calvin Johnson, it's a wasted pick.

RE: 2013 Lions Draft
My first instinct was to vomit at the thought of another 1st round WR.... BUT, if we ever had a year that the Lions actually needed a solid #2 WR, it's 2013.
Young is gone. Broyles has proven that he can't stay healthy. Durham is terrible (with the exception of one random spectacular catch). Robiskie is a practice player. Etc....
I'd like to see the Lions take a TE early - maybe in the 2nd or 3rd round. Pettigrew is practically worthless IMO. Scheffler has his moments, but let's face it, he's not a #1 TE.

RE: 2013 Lions Draft
No doubt they need a secondary. Taking Reiff with our 1st pick over Janoris Jenkins was obviously one of the biggest mistakes we ever made. He's having a Pro Bowl rookie campaign for the Rams.

RE: 2013 Lions Draft
Do you think New England would trade their entire coaching staff for all of our draft picks in 2013?

Also like Manti Te'o, Alex Okafor (TX), or Sam Montgomery (LSU) if either of them are there for the Lions pick.

The Lions don't have much of a problem with offense, but they cannot stop anyone. Focus should be on improving the defensive backfield first. The NFL is a passing league now, and you have to have the players to defend it.

True. You could probably justify nearly every position on the team except maybe QB, RB, and DT right now.

RE: 2013 Lions Draft
Here's my mock, not sure how realistic any of this is but here we go:
1st Round: OG Chance Warmack, Alabama- Could play immediately, cut/trade Peterman for picks or a CB to free up cap space
2nd Round: S Bacarri Rambo, Georgia
3rd: OC Khaled Holmes, USC
4th: Lions don't have a 4th rounder
5th: WR Ryan Swope, Texas A&M
6th: RB DJ Harper, Boise State or RB Theo Riddick, Notre Dame- Might need another RB given that Best might never play another down in the NFL...
7th: OLB Jonathan Bostic, Florida
Undrafted Signings:
WR Cody Wilson, CMU
TE Matt Furstenburg, Maryland
I would prefer to focus on rebuilding an aging OL into a younger group that is actually capable of opening up some running holes and also focusing on defense in the early rounds. They can trade Peterman, hold onto Raiola for another year and either cut/trade him.
One intriguing option that I'd love to see would be trading Suh... and rebuilding around the 3-4 draft picks he would net and the resulting cap space. Having three huge contracts (Suh, Stafford and Calvin) hinders to ability to spend on quality talent across the entire roster. I'd almost rather have a 1st, 3rd and 5th rounder plus maybe a conditional future pick for Suh than have that cap space eating up the roster. It would be a VERY bold move and I'm sure there would be a lot of backlash from the fans... but the possibilities are interesting, at least to me.

RE: 2013 Lions Draft
I think Te'o would be an excellent first-round pick if he falls to them. Impact player and a leader on an otherwise leader-less defense. Lions need to upgrade at every defensive position with the exception of defensive tackle IMO. Delmas is the leader of the defense and an All-Pro type talent during the four games a season when he is actually healthy.

Bears go 10-6 and they axe Lovie. I realize they went 3-5 down the stretch...but seriously?
Lions go 4-12 and Schwartz is still our man.

2013 Lions Draft
I could see the Lions trading down to get more picks in this draft. Plus I wouldn't be shocked if the Lions took Denard Robinson in the 3rd or 5th round, depending on what is happening. Skill position talent in this draft is very low this year.
