Enjoy those conference matchups with Louisville, Georgetown and Syracuse. I've heard that if you chant "butthurt!" often enough, the ridicule is easier to bear.

Yep, a league with Boise, Houston, UConn, Cincinnati, Temple, SDSU.....clearly we're in the Sunbelt, now...

Yeah when I think power football I instantly think UConn SDSU and Temple. Admit it, all those years you guys kept saying it was because of the basketball that you wanted to leave. Whats hilarious is that the Basketball left you.

Yep, CUSA clearly has a stronger basketball lineup than UConn, Temple, Cincinnati....

As far as power football, Boise, Cincinnati, ECU, Houston, and SMU. Yeah, clearly FAU and North Texas make for a stronger league.

Your really fooling yourself if you think an average fan is going to be able to tell the difference. Besides you picked the bottom when comparing against the top nice. USM La Tech MTSU Tulsa and Rice would be a much better comparison. Take away that little access big you guys had and its an open field.

you think the average fan cannot tell the difference between UConn, Cincinnati, Memphis and Temple in hoops vs UAB, USM, Marshall, and UTEP? Really?

You don't think Cincinnati and Boise alone have more name recognition in football than USM and Tulsa?

Man, either up or lower your dosage....what you are popping isn't working...

Keep spinning, dude. Keep spinning...

Even with hind-sight. U of Memphis would still make the move to the BE, if our other option were to stay in the current version of CUSA. Is that funny?

All six schools would have still made the jump, even without the C7.

Not sure what is so funny about the Memphis AD. After all, he isn't the one that made the decision.

It's become pretty clear the Big East isn't dissolving, which was the only way this had any real chance to end in disaster. The Catholic schools are just leaving. They don't even have any language that guarantees they keep the name. The idea that they could ruin all the C-USA schools that left and force them to crawl back not only isn't going to happen, but in a lot of ways the remaining schools have good bargaining positions against the leaving Catholic schools.

We'll never know. But the "new thing" - if that is what the orphaned schools choose to do...with NCAA and TV networks' giving feedback on the pros and cons along the way - will likely include the founding members of CUSA and MWC which means, yes, UAB. The point is that the things that made the BE/NBE such a pit of quicksand will not be present. Whether it's implemented as a true "coast-to-coast" conference with geographic divisions or an Eastern and a Western conference, membership will be stable, everyone will be coming in at the same time under the same circumstances, and the most poisonous/disruptive forces that plagued the BE will be elsewhere.

What I find funny is Memphis keeps putting down CUSA and how low tier it is...But you seem to forget you WERE one of the bottom dwellers in the league

tell me..how many times did the tigers play for a CUSA football championship?
or even got close?

Please..it makes you look very stupid to be talking down to anyone in CUSA when YOU were one of the reasons so many teams departed the league in the first place..

It's entertaining to see the constant "this is a positive development" spin from some of the posters, but until affects USM in some meaningful way, not really.

See this is why any team that got the invite had to take it, because the worst case scenario was always just a combination of C-USA 1.0 and 2.0 or something that looks like a slimmer version of the merger idea. If you turned down the invite it's possible that you could end up in the left behind conference without any of the original C-USA members. So by taking the invite you just ensured that even if it all fell apart you would be in the stronger group in the aftermath.

I'm not going to make fun of anyone, but every school that agreed to leave their current conference for the NBE since Summer 2011 made a head-scratching decision. Most people are realizing that things have been FUBAR in that conference for a long time, but in a few years the story will leak out on just how FUBAR the situation really was. The unavoidable issue is that there is no way any school's administration didn't know at least 70-80% of the whole story...with most knowing 100%. That means they either made an almost impossibly poor decision, or - more likely, I think - they were forced by the deepest pockets and loudest voices around their programs to say, "Yes." Some of them may lose their job over this now, but nearly all of them would likely have lost their job anyway had they said, "No, thanks" (even though it would have been the wiser choice).

BTW, the poorness of the decision increases exponentially the later the date that it was made. I mean, once the BE was officially shut out of the new Cartel and couldn't even get a pitch on their TV rights because so many members were publicly shopping themselves...I just can't imagine any reasonable due diligence that would lead to that decision. It HAD to be pressure from fans/donors.

Blazr, I like you. However, you've made it no secret of your dislike for Holland and the athletics department at ECU. What you are failing to realize is that Holland knew what mess we were entering... and it was better than the mess we are leaving. We may all be back together one day, who knows? But for now, we have done nothing more than do our best to align ourselves with the schools we want to be aligned with.... nothing more, nothing less.

UAB would have done the same thing.

If you think my response to the OP is stupid that's your opinion.

Im not attacking CUSA, as much as defending our AD's decision, which was the right one by the way. One that USM's or UAB's AD would make as well.

Oh....almost forgot 0-12. 04-cheers

some of us are just pissed that when uab was in talks with memphis to continue the series memphis made it clear that they are now too good to play uab in the future

First, how would you know this? Second, Memphis doesn't owe a series to UAB. We do what's best for Memphis, not UAB. Playing UAB in basketball does nothing for Memphis. And the Battle of the Bones has always been a joke. Get over yourself. A number of our fans say the same about Louisville and its pathetic.
