Automatic Bids
Six teams must have played together for five consecutive years.
nBE
Houston
Memphis
Tulane
Southern Methodist
Central Florida
They need one more. I assume ECU's invite becomes all-sport.
C-USA
Group 1
Marshall
Rice
Southern Mississippi
Tulsa
Alabama-Birmingham
Texas-El Paso
Group 2
Florida Atlantic
Florida International
Middle Tennessee State
North Texas
Conclusion:
If the new Big East takes one more Conference USA team from Group 1, Conference USA will lose it's auto bids unless they take two more teams from the Sun Belt to get to the magic number of six core members that have played together for five consecutive years (Group 2). If that happens, the Sun Belt would lose its auto bid as they would only have four members that have played together for such a time.

Except better competition in every sport.
It has nothing to offer western schools anymore, but any CUSA school would still jump at the opportunity to play in CUSA v2 again.

At the expense of money, bowl games (money) and travel expense? You're delusional if you don't think this isn't all about money and the nBE's structural makeup will give it no chance of $ if it isn't dissolved. You have no bargaining chips. The best thing would be to join CUSA temporarily or just do a new conference and accept no autobids/money/bowls for two years.

And you're delusional if you think those bowls are tied to CUSA forever.
If a new conference does indeed form, they're going to steal CUSA 3.0's lunch money and push them in the mud.

What you fail to understand is that a nationwide conference will not get a TV contract. It's not alluring. It doesn't work. Never has. The Metro conference, for example. Regionality + decent competition gets money because travel fees are cheap, and they can focus on one or two networks, like FSN does.

You would be surprised. From what I can tell, the key is Boise. The national concept actually works better without the basketball onlys. Now you can have an all sports western division and an all-sports eastern division. Essentially a solid "best of the rest" conference under the Big East umbrella (which likely have to be called something else because the Catholics will likley get the intellctual rights to the name). So, lets call it "Big Majors-16". Essentially a collection of some of the better known mid-major programs acroos the nation. Just like the Alliance, you get some regionality due to the wstern and eastern divisions--but you get to ditch the crummy contract. It wont be SEC money--but 5-6 million is easily possible--probably more depending on who is involved and what markets can be assembeled.

Oh, please. You need to go peddle that delusional crap on the BE board because no one here is going to buy it.

According to the article from CBS sports, it's $3.2 million per school IF Boise doesn't go back to the MWC. If they do, then it's less but not sure how much less.
Here's the article.

the Big East schools will only have that 5 years together if Tulane and ECU are allowed to exit for the 2013 season along with UH, SMU, Memphis, and UCF
as of now ECU and Tulane are scheduled to leave in 2014 a year later so the 5 years would be broken
the incentive for the CUSA to allow ECU and Tulane to go ahead and leave is that the Big East football members will not try and take one of the 6 schools in CUSA that meets that same requirement.....Rice, UAB, USM, Tulsa, UTEP, and Marshall
if one of those schools jumps even in 2014 then the CUSA will be facing a similar issue to the Big East football members
and if the CUSA is going to try and do the same thing to the Sunbelt they would have to have FAU and MTSU jump in 2013 as well or the 5 years is broken

Per an ESPN article by McMurphy and Katz, an industry source said that the hoops schools were worth 15%-20% of the Big East's total value. So I'm not sure where Dodd gets his 30% number, but it's Dennis Dodd so he most likely made it up.
