If the big east falls apart, which seems quite likely now, we could very well be either a. Invited to join to help fill out the numbers b. See the merging of cusa with the big east to form a superconference or c. The disbanding of the big east and either a new east coast league is formed or the cusa members who are scheduled to leave July 1 instead stay put in cusa and we now have Memphis, Houston, smu etc. All back in our conference.

So my question is two fold, 1. which scenario do you guys think is most likely to happen and 2. Which scenario do you think would be best for odu's future?

I think a. Seems most likely to me buy I think a new east coast league would be best for odu so we could save on travel in all sports and keep local and regional rivalries.

Opinions?[/u]

New East Coast league sounds interesting but we would have to see who ends up wanting in and who gets swallowed up by the other conferences.

I'm leaning towards a new east coast super-league with remnants of the Big East, CUSA, maybe a SBC school or two and Ga Southern and App St.

Something like:
East: ODU, ECU, Marshall, UCF, USF, Navy, Temple, Ga Southern
West: SMU, Rice, Houston, App St, WKU, La-Laf, MTSU, UTSA

EDIT: Forgot Charlotte. This is hard. And maybe even Ga State so everyone will have a homecoming opponent.

Can you make a 20 team league, play the 9 in your division (and 3 OOC) and never face the others except in conference title game?

Deej, don't want the current FCS schools in CUSA or this New league (if it happens). While they are powerhouses in FCS they don't do anything to attract a TV deal. I think there are plenty of current FBS teams that would fit the bill.

I also think the ACC will go after USF & maybe UCF if they lose more schools. Maybe even Navy.

If so then I would hope something like:
East: ODU, ECU, Marshall, Temple, UNCC, UAB, MTSU, UMASS
West: SMU, Rice, Houston, La-Tech, So Miss, UTSA, Tulsa and one of the other Texas schools.

Broad footprint but some decent markets in there. And some not so great markets....but ECU & Marshall are to established to ignore.

Wild cards: West Ky and what about Memphis?

"When ODU plays at Tech, the Monarchs will receive 4,000 tickets, 3,600 to sell and 400 comps, according to the contract Selig forwarded me. At ODU, Tech will receive 1,600 and 400.

Also per the contract, if Ballard's capacity is 25,000, the Hokies will receive 2,600 tickets to sell. If capacity is 30,000 or more, Tech will receive 3,600.

Tech will pay ODU $175,000 for the 2016 game, $375,000 for the '19 contest. In '18, the Monarchs will pay the Hokies $175,000.

The cost of canceling the series is $300,000 per game."

I guess we are paying them for the loss of revenue for a home game??

I'm guessing it's just travel costs, mainly in case we don't get that home game.

We did the same with Idaho.
