"Virginia Tech has agreed to a three-game football series with Old Dominion, including a contest in Norfolk in 2018 that will give the Monarchs their first home game with an ACC school, officials said Monday.

ODU athletic director Wood Selig and Tech AD Jim Weaver said in addition to the 2018 game, the schools will play in Blacksburg in 2016 and 2019."

Tech is the only school we will do a 2 for 1 with according to Selig, this being the only one.
Nice! 2016 will be a fun away game!
I suspect that this implies a tangible timetable for stadium expansion/construction. No matter what choice is made, it will be done by the 2018 season. Nice.
Good deal I guess. When was the last time Tech played in a place as small as Foreman Field?

I'm sure Tech buys a guarantee game every year. Does this series help them avoid that as I'm sure they would pay us otherwise.

they are already turning their noses up. I love it.

not counting conference games, Marshall in 2011 (38k), Western Michigan in 2002 (30k), Akron in 1996 (35k), Southern Miss in 1994 (33k)
It's a good recruiting ploy and makes business sense but I don't see why they need the recruiting help in the 757. They've dropped the ball to an extent here and I guess are trying to kickstart their local recruiting.

It's a nice carrot to dangle for someone choosing between Tech and say Maryland. Come to Tech and we'll play a home game in your city and pound the home team in front of your friends and family.

Do you smell that boys? That's the smell of fear. They are worried about us threatening their "throne" as king of Virginia. They can claim we are inferior but we will see what happens on the field. I honestly have no fear about playing tech whatsoever. Win win for us, even if we lose, we were supposed too.....bit if we win? Epic.

Just hope steinspring is still coaching then when we play in 2016......that guy is a joke!

If by some miracle Coach Wilder is still our coach by then and hasn't been scooped up by some much bigger program for his success thus far, I honestly don't think there is a chance in hell VT pounds us. They aren't nearly the program their fans think they are and we should be pulling in much better players by that time.

They lost to crappy jmu at home. Sure, we won't still have heinecke but 2016 will be McCarley's junior or senior year....I think we will give them a game!
Wow... the Tech board is blowing up worse than the JMU board! They are absolutely losing it. The fear of losing to us is real and very apparent to some. Others are just abnoxiously snobish. I hope we roll them like we did in basketball or like a cow tipping date on a Friday night in Blacksburg!
I like how they compare us to FCS schools. We will be in (essentially) season 3 of FBS by then with a full 4 years of FBS recruiting. I think this was a home run from our administration. Plus, this means that we are almost guaranteed a completed phase of stadium expansion by 2018 which is more than we could say in the past.
There's a storm coming Hokie Fans....

Virginia Tech and it's fans better batten down the hatches.....

because when it hits you're all going to wonder how you ever thought you could live so large on 757 recruits and leave so little for the rest of us.

Deshi basara! Deshi basara!

What does that mean?

Rise.

It means Rise ODU fans, Rise

lol for those who saw "The Dark Knight Rises"
This is great for vt fans living in the Hampton roads area that can't drive 5-6 hours to Blacksburg. Those vt fans are just overreacting. They get to bring in some recruits and show off their team to 757 alumni in exchange for two games at their place. Good deal.
We may be a Big East team by that time fellas. 04-cheers
I love Selig's comments about this being the only 1 for 2 deal for ODU football.

Razor makes great points about VT, and I would argue that VT's offense is no more perplexing than that of GSU.

WIth a couple of years of recruits and 1-a experience, this could be a good game. Let's hope McCarley is as advertised and our defense gets its sea legs.

We have come a long way in 4 short years.......imagine how different our world would be if Heinicke did not sign with ODU (over GaState), Blackman would have been our QB, and the CUSA invite did not come our way. JMU heads are exploding right now. For shame.

According to Fire Bryan Stinespring.com (FBS) BS has been offered a head coaching position and will be leaving the program.

There probably won't even be a Big East by then : http://ajerseyguy.com/?p=4188

Kudos to Wood for getting this done! We continue to raise the bar as a program. Got to keep Wilder on board!
