BTW- I just listened to this presser and he talked about watching film of Duke all morning, so not sure if he's even had the chance to have meetings with Ono. I think we need to let this play out a bit.

Who bashed Dantonio for not coaching the bowl? My understanding was that was a decision by the AD. UC felt they might as well move on.

BK was different because it was such an enormous game and a chance for an unbeaten season.

I am much more concerned about whether Ono and Whit are capitalizing on getting in front of major donors to advance a building project NOW.

Big wheel donors are going to be 100X more open to writing a check now when they can still write off the entire donation then they will be next year when the donation write-offs for the wealthy are very likely to be CAPPED by Obama and his band of idiots.

Wait until next year and if deductions are capped, major building campaigns are going to be MUCH HARDER to pull off.

I'll pretend you didn't just blame the elimination of deductions on Obama, considering it is the other party who refuses to increase top rates and instead raise revenue through the elimination of deductions and loopholes. Additionally, many of the existing proposals regarding charitable donations involve caps that are likely to only have a modest impact on large scale charitable giving (capping at 28% instead of top rate of 35%, for instance). Finally, as with basically all other aspects of our tax code, the charitable deduction is extremely regressive. Taxpayers earning less than $50k contribute 19% of total charitable donations, but receive only 5% of the total tax benefit.

Politics aside, the point here is that I don't think Whit and President Ono need to be sitting around wringing their hands about large donations drying up next year because of changes in the tax code. They need to be doing what's best in the long term interests of the university and the athletic department.

That would be an amazing point if it was true.

Wasn't there a mini-meltdown on here when he tried to take his staff with him ahead of our bowl? And wasn't there a huge meltdown after BK walked on the team ahead of the sugar bowl? BK was classless for not coaching that bowl as I recall. This guy hasn't even decided to leave yet and talks about coaching the bowl game and people are getting mad. Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess.

Look I'm not sure how I feel about the awkward situation where a coach departs prior to a bowl, should he coach or not? But I think if one wants to stay and coach it is deserving of more respect than the guy who runs out a back hall and can't wait to get to his new office for selfish reasons.

Huge mistake to stay in New York for a failing conference if CBJ does leave. We have Associate AD's that could have listened to the crap in NY.

Exactly. WTF is he doing? I become less and less impressed with him.

I'm not sure who you are referring to. I had zero issue with them bolting right away. That is the way it should be done.

Not to start that crap all over but I think the BK thing was over how he left, sneaking in and out, constant saying he had no contact during the Pitts game week, etc. and not over whether he would or would not be coaching the bowl game. In fact I don't think him coaching the bowl game has anything to do with the up roar.

Not sure if anybody else caught it, but Webb said "Good Luck" to Butch after the conference. Thought it was an interesting comment...but probably shouldn't read into it.

Good luck in Colorado…..
Good luck with your interview at another school…
Good luck on some unrelated personal issue….
Good luck on hooking up with some hot co-ed he saw walking down the hall prior to the press conference…..

As in "Good Luck against Duke"? or as in "Good Luck in Colorado, you're gonna need it." Yes. you are reading too much into it.

I'm not referring to you Marcus. I just remember a ton of bile when the last two coaches left with many criticizing that they quickly got up and left and didn't care about the players and the bowl game. I don't have the time to go digging up the old posts on it, but I distinctly recall angst at Dantonio for pulling assistants away who were supposed to stay and coach and then BK for NOT coaching the bowl and leaving the kids in the lurch. Fast forward to now and people want to run him out and rip him for possibly wanting to stay and finish the bowl game. I don't know which is the better route for the players and team but I do think if a coach is wanting to stay and coach versus getting a nice head start on his work at the new school, it shows a tiny bit of character in my book versus running out the door to catch the first place to New University, USA.

I'd be happy with a compromise - if he leaves for another school he coaches the bowl game as long as he includes the new coach in it as soon as possible (and as long as the players want him to coach the bowl game).

04-cheers I feel mean making that joke though. Walt was a classy classy guy and old school. We could use a few like Walt these days versus the snarky j-offs who seem populate sports media these days.

I loved Walt. Dude didn't quite understand punctuation, but he was a good man.

A typical piece would sound like this:
"The bats came around late as the Reds won today 5 to 4 at Wimbeldon, John McEnroe defeated Jimmy Connors in 5 sets while playing water polo has become a popular sport in Southern America, the Brazilians prepare for the olympics."

Hell, I thought it was great BK came in and taped names to helmets to get ready for the Int. Bowl. Lot of folks were actually pleased MD was taking 3 yards and a cloud of yawn on the road.. Best thing about him was Narduzzi, IMO...only bad blood I recall was him lying about it.

BK was different. This is not the Sugar Bowl and a Top 10 Team we are dealing with right now. Having grad assistants and Kerry Coombs run practice was awful.
I want the next guy on deck if Jones is leaving and I want to know our status before the sun sets.
