My son and I are headed the short way up to KC this afternoon to catch Deangelo and the Panthers tomorrow vs. the Chiefs.

They may not even play the game. Terrible news. Prayers go out to those affected. Apparently the player's mom witnessed the incident.

That's horrible. I read where he may have done it in front of some staff members as well. This guy only killed himself because he didn't want to spend the rest of his life behind bars, IMO.

I've had suicide attempts happen to people close to me. There just is something different about the way they tick.

I'm not necessarily saying that you are wrong, but his brain may have just been wired completely different and all sorts of chemical issues. He could have been off balance or on some sort of anti depressants that altered his thinking.

Or, more likely, repeative concussive brain trauma.

Possibly, I think most of the guys that have killed themselves due to that shoot the gun in their heart so their brain is intact for research.

Thanks - I didn't see that...I guess we'll still plan on heading up there.

When Darryl Kile was found dead, the Cubs-Cards cancelled the game. But that was one of 162. I'm guessing it's much tougher to do logistically for the NFL. I was excited to see Deangelo get his first start in a long time. I expect the atmosphere will be depressing, to say the least. Very sad and tragic.

Apparently shot himself in front of Coach Crennell and GM Scott Pioli.

I'd be shocked if it wasn't cancelled. Just because they haven't done so yet doesn't mean they won't as they are given more time to think out the situation.

Too many of these stories. Something has to be done to better protect the brain from repeated trauma. If not, the writing is on the wall for football as we know it.

They may delay the game a day or two. It's too late in the season for two non-playoff teams to hold off much later.

But given Belcher took another life, I find it hard to believe he gets any tributes.

Maybe a moment of silence, but as of now, Belcher is going to get the Chris Benoit treatment.

I almost thinks the NFL plays game as scheduled.

BTW, when Kile passed, they didn't play that night, but they played the next day.

When Grizzlies play-by-play man Don Poier passed, I think they played that night. He wasn't on the team, but he was part of the team.

Wow... Sounds worse than I expected. Directly involves the GM and coach.

They might be too rattled to do anything tomorrow.

and a now parentless 3 month old child

from ESPN...

Members of the Chiefs organization told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that some players noticed the shooter was troubled in his car, and went in the facility and told someone, before Pioli and Crennel called police and went outside to talk to him. The player then killed himself in front of them.

Snapp said that before turning the gun on himself, the player thanked Pioli and Crennel for all they had done for him.

Arrowhead Stadium has been locked down since about 8 a.m. local time.

I would imagine any delay would be about the mental state of the witnesses and giving them a chance to separate themselves from the incident. It would not be out of reverence for the deceased player.

I am just wondering how the Chief's fans are reacting to this, considering how they have been trashing the team all season.

Probably the way they should. I imagine the city will rally around the team with support for them.

Maybe, probably what happens.

Or resentment that the team didnt see warning signs in one of its players before he murdered an innocent person.

True but a lot of times when people have mental issues even the closest to these people don't see stuff like this coming.

That poor baby..3 months old and will never know either parent.

My roommate took her life three months ago and I still find myself randomly in a heap of tears. Prayers for both families, his teammates & anyone else dealing with the loss. I know this day is something they will carry with them forever..December 1st will never be the same.

Every tragic situation doesn't always involve 'clear' warning signs. Some people snap for whatever reason, some do have signs like depression but of course people with depression don't always kill people or themselves. The Chiefs deal with what's on the field and off the field businesses-wise, they can't monitor private life situations until it involves the business of the NFL and its policies
