Really?!
Romney strategist Stevens lauds white support.

Why do they persist sticking their foot further in their mouth?!? 01-lauramac2

Quote:"Yes, the Republican Party has problems, but as we go forward, let's remember that any party that captures the majority of the middle class must be doing something right," he wrote.

Must be a PSL thing....

Quote:On Nov. 6, Romney carried the majority of every economic group except those with less than $50,000 a year in household income.

How about the fact that the average income is 42,000, so he really didn't win the middle class.

So if you make more than 50K, then you are not middle class? Probably in Obama eyes that is true.

What I was pointing out is that Romney won the upper income brackets and not the average American.

RE: Really?!
Its not zero sum. Obama did better with upper income voters than Romney did with lower income voters. People who made over 100k annually went for Romney at 54% but those making under 30k went for him st 35% so the margin is pretty critical. Winning a narrow majority of your core constituency is not really that good. There are probably 55-60% of people in that income bracket who are natural fits in the GOP constituency who were alienated by either the social conservative wing of the party or the Romney campaign.

RE: Really?!
Maybe the secret for Republican success is to work to increase average income. If the minimum wage were $100,000 they'd win in a breeze.

RE: Really?!
The problem with the Republican Party is that they fail to look at the country through other eyes. They refuse to acknowledge that their positions on a few key issues are deemed as offensive by a lot of people in this country.

That doesn't mean they are wrong 100% of the time...it just means they aren't considerate of others.

or...one could say they don't play the "game" very well.

How about the fact that the average income is 42,000, so he really didn't win the middle class.

A family of 4 on foodstamps, welfare, Title 20 Day Care assistance, and Medicaid, can also make around 15k with no cut in benefits.

Foodstamps- $618 a month (Texas)
Welfare Benefit- $950
Title 20 Day Care Benefits- Varies depending on the number of children. But can easily be $400-$1000. We'll use the low end.
Housing Subsidy- the value of a New York City Housing Authority voucher for a two-bedroom apartment in 2007 was $1,318. For fairness sake I'll cut that mumber in half down to $650.
Heating Subsidy- In NY heating subsidies range from $25 to $150 off your regular Budgeted Bill. I'll use $75 as a mid range.
Medicaid- Even low budget medical insurance is 10k. Divide that by 12 and you're talking a premium benefit of $833 a month.

$618
$950
$400
$650
$75
$833

Total- $3526 net income

Were this taxable income you could bump it up 15-20% for a monthly gross of $4231. Or an annual gross income of $50772. You can also work and make in the range of 15K per year with no cut in benefits. Were that the case the annual income would be $68,000.

These numbers far exceed the $42k average household income that you pointed out, and these folks are working part time at best. Using your standard even those in poverty can be classified as middle class.

Yes, we have poverty in this country, but it's all relative. Most people in "poverty" have a car, a microwave, two TV's, multiple cell phones, adequate shelter, and access to medical care. In most 3rd World Countries they'd call them "The Rich."

I don't begrudge them these benefits, and for some they are absolutely incapable of being productive members of society, and we need to help them. But for a large majority these benefits need to be used as a stepping stone, not as a permanent lifestyle.

That ranks right up there with your income tax model you tried to present as fact earlier this year.

You're on a roll Mr. Platitude.

You're like George Costanza. When women started asking him specifics about his life he'd drone on with pointless platitudes in the hope they wouldn't notice. Carry on George.

You're really bitter these days Johnny Drama, I'm thinking you just hate your lot in life, jump on here to compensate and when you get challenged by any fact, or someone doesn't agree with you, you start your typical marginalizing and innuendo.

Keep up the good work, glad you're feeling better.

When your best response to a substantive point is a silent fart, am I supposed to congratulate you for another brilliant rebuttal?
