no, we do not know that. you are speculating. Tulane last year wasn't far off from Houston or SMU attendance numbers. Rutgers and providence doesn't draw 20k a game for bball. Just stop dude.

This. Everyone needs to look at the big picture. The biggest threat to this conference going forward (besides the obvious scenario of the defection of Louisville and/or UConn) was the Big East Catholic schools splitting off. The football people can argue otherwise, but Aresco knows how important those markets are to the TV contract. Tulane is *exactly* the type of all-sports member that the Big East Catholic members would want - private school in an urban market with great academics. This indicates that the hybrid league is sticking together (for better or for worse).

No way thats happening. Bye Bye Boise. Bye Bye SDSU. Add UAB, Old Dominion, and Middle Tennesee State, plus an imaginary team in Charlotte --thats surely worth 15 million a year....ok, maybe 2 million a year. No way BYU is joining that crap. There is no way. Plus, I dont think the Catholics would be all that fired up about Tulane and they have a huge majority in votes.

Boise fans should be happy. Another bottom-feeder to beat up and improve your record. The SEC, ACC, B1G, XII, and PAC all have bottom-feeders. This one just happens to come with a TV market and solid academics. That's about it, though.

I'd say as well that it'd be a fit for those southern schools- Memphis, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Tampa, Orlando....
Except they are tiny and suck at everything.

RE: Tulane to Big East (merged)
Sounds like the Big East needed 1 more all sport school to get to 8. We were at 10. With Rutgers and possibly Louisville and UConn leavinig, we would be at 7.
Tulane may have edged out East Carolina for the 8th all sport slot. If that's true, that decision was clearly made by the Big East basketball schools, which means they are still on board.

It's a slam dunk fit.
Are you serious? Would you rather have our 50,000 or their 500, this s**T is absolutely disgusting.......
Yup... outside of BYU/AFA, I add Tulane. No question. Close between them and Frenso. Seems like Aresco and I were on the same page here.

Thank you for helping me out there. The BE wouldnt' be crazy about ANY of those number in basketball honestly. But look at the SMU turn around just by being invited to the BE. I expect Tulane to do the same.

RE: Tulane to Big East (merged)
I thought the Big East should go to Louisiana because there is a team in the state waiting to compete with LSU but I didn't think it would be Tulane. This good for Big East in recruiting Louisiana. As for BSU fans, cool down because this is most likely the team to replace Rutgers.

Not sure why this would be, unless someone else is coming aboard for next year as well.......

I could see the Catholic schools behind this move as Frank alluded to, and frankly, keeping them happy is important as we move forward. The BCS AQ stuff is gone. We can't also lose the basketball schools that help make this conference a notch above the other non-AQs.

Lousy attendance, no fanbase, little media interest in their market. So yeah, they fit in great with SMU and Memphis.
When did the Big East start caring about academics? Are Memphis and Houston and Temple in the US News Top 100?
UConn and Louisville made the hybrid worth it for the basketball schools. If they're out the door, screw football. Screw football right in the ear, and go get northeastern (or close enough, like VCU) nationally competitive basketball programs. Tulane is another basketball mouth to feed who brings nothing to the table competitively.
EDIT: I was posting while angry. I was only slogging Memphis' football attendance.
