RE: CUSA Departure
College football realignment has come to resemble a partner-swapping-sex-club. Before you know it every team will have been a member of every conference at least once.

Tulane brings less than stellar football, and only so-so basketball; along with an apathetic fanbase. Additionally, New Orleans is not a top 50 (53) television market; and what is there belongs to the Saints/LSU. Tulane's piece of the media pie is extremely minor.
ECU brings quality football, and a rabid local fanbase, but nothing in the way of media dollars.
Tulane is certainly a puzzling addition. ECU makes perfect sense for the BE.

ODU and Charlotte will end up in whatever is left of the Big East probably in 5 years or so.

Agree, but was that 5 years or 5 days? There are probably more BE departures coming soon.

From their [ECU] standpoint.
From a business perspective; ECU brings very little in the way of dollars, actual or potential, to the table.
Football only? The Pirates are not Notre Dame.
All East Carolina adds is a football program located in the East. If it is just about having a numerical add, then this seems to be a short term fix for a BE that is extremely desperate.
Curiously, from a long term business perspective, ODU and UNCC all-sports make far more sense than Tulane and ECU

Certainly at least 1 more. My guess is UCONN is leaving, and then we'll all wait to see if Maryland can get out of the 50 million they owe the ACC. If so all hell breaks loose.

I vote UMass and Ohio to replace ECU and Tulane. Will be a basketball upgrade and a football wash.

Funny that the school whose AD lobbied for us to join the conference may now leave the conference before we are able to play a down.
How do we not need JMU? The geography of this league is insane. I'd be pushing for them hard if I was Wood.

Ohio would be on an island withhout WKU and UMass has no fans. MTSU JMU App State and WKU oughta be our most desired schools to add.

Although unthinkable to me just a few months age, we may yet see the hypothesized East coast regional conference; including but not limited to; ECU, UNCC Marshall, ODU, JMU, App State, and UD.
Maybe even sooner than later.
None of this explains Tulane, however.

Because a CUSA East with 3 startups, FIU, and UAB would be outright pathetic.

RE: CUSA Departure
We need to raid the MAC. They have quality teams with pathetic media deals that need the national exposure. Some combination of Ohio, Kent State, UMass, and Northern Illinois.
While it would be nice to have JMU for the travel, but it both waters down the conference and it waters down the Virginia FBS recruiting pool. It would both make ODU worse and would put CUSA below the SBC in the pecking order.

Certainly not much of a chess game anymore, this realignment business. More like an aggressive game of dominoes...the powers that be are just pounding on the table until something falls over.
Buy some stock in ConAgra, 'cause the Orville Redenbacher is going to be flying off the shelves. We're in for a show.

RE: CUSA Departure
This is madness. Will the realignment ever stop?
Also, I just want to say that ECU got slapped terribly hard with that football-only invite. (Heck, they could be taking ODU's spot in the CAA for Olympic sports and we all know that's a downgrade for those other sports.) Hopefully this will work out for them.
