Instate games exist so little in Arkansas at the D1 level, that every game becomes a huge deal. They had their 3rd largest crowd in history tonight. Last time they had a game that large, they were inducting freaking Scottie Pippen (UCA Grad) into their Hall of Fame.

Their football transitioned starting 2006 but weren't full FCS until 2009. Their other sports immediately became D1

We are trying to keep the grand tradition of never losing to UCA alive here at ASU. While we dont compete athletically as often, we compete heavily on the academic side of things.
When UCA moved to D1 there were a lot of eople in Arkansas who predicted they would pass ASU within a few years. What really happened, was UCA had to spend so much on Football, that it has struggled everywhere else. Throw in embezzlement and all sorts of other fun things, and you have the UCA Bears. Their faculty senate a while back passed a resolution requesting the school move back to D2 because of all the funds being moved from academics to athletics. The Athletic Department laughed.

That's one thing TXST did not have a problem with. President Trauth has made great strides in TXST academics which began before the push for FBS; and continues at an even, or perhaps faster, pace as athletics.
To wit, enrollment has doubled in about a decade, doctorates have been added and TXST reached emerging research status. (amongst other things.)
