I heard on ESPN radio earlier this evening that Maryland has officially applied for Big 10 membership, with Rutgers to follow, they start in 2014.

Yep, and if louisville and/or cincinnati don't get picked, they will be begging to come home. South florida and central florida, should be in the same conference. The C-USA footprint would make more sense. The Big east becomes BB only conference or merge with the A10.

It would be a great time for a smart, aggressive conference executive to make a deal and grab some the better parts of the Big East back.

Unfortunately, we have Banowsky instead.

well in this theory that you guys have: we have 14 teams currently for 2013 +4 that left if they changed their mind.

How does CUSA work with 18 teams?

Can we un-invite certain teams and piss them off? Do we leave the 4 that left hang out to dry?

Honestly the BE needs to shrink so all of this is just part of the process.

I think for us to join with our former mates, we will have to go to them. Because C-USA is crowded, we have no room to bring them back. Perhaps the basketball members of the Big East will salvage the name and the footbal members will form a new conference and bring us old C-USA members in for the reunion tour.

The plan worked. Those in the Big 5 conferences have basically extended an olive branch to the have-nots, however in doing so they guaranteed that the playing field is not level anymore.

The have-nots in desperation have accepted the olive branch because the branch will help us keep our head above water instead of us drowning.
