RE: Sources: Schools may rejoin MWC
We take back whoever wants to come back and if we end up with 18 so be it. We split into an East - West and do just like the Alliance wanted to do.

That said I look for another conference to be formed with the Big East leftovers and they will try to cherry pick what they can. The Alliance with whatever is left of C-USA and the MWC happens and the two winners play. Presto, you have the makings of a playoff.

Unfortunately, we have Banowsky instead.

Pipe dream. The only way anyone leaves the big east for Cusa is for the big east to fold. No CUSA member will go to the sunbelt and no big east member will go to cusa

The logical end is when there is no more extra money to be made. If the Big East can't offer more money than the C*USA exit fee, and C*USA can't offer more than the Big East exit fee, it ends.

I agree 100%. This shakeup could be an opportunity for UAB. Is the leadership in place to see this and make it happen? Really bad time for a change in President but I guess that shouldn't be surprising.

I've never, as in ever, had a Banowsky basher explain what he could or should have done different in all the changes around college football since he's been in charge. But I respect Band Dad so I'll just point out that you're both talking around they key truth: to quote The Matrix, "Do not try to bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead...only try to realize the truth...there is no spoon."

Any incentive for the Western schools to join the NBE is all but gone. The basketball schools were already fed up with the bull**** they've had to put up with (which, in the end, still left them without BCS-level $$ and still no firm offer for TV rights) and they've drawn a line in the sand over watering down hoops any more. There being no "free agents" with the value in both hoops and football, all the football schools can offer is football-only invites. No school, not even - I daresay - ECU is going to sacrifice all of their other sports to just shift conferences among the "left-out" 5, and that's even more true when it's no secret that the NBE has not yet seen its last defections.

The basketball schools will take the name and the former BE football schools will be free agents (hence, there is no "Big East" for all-sports). They combine with CUSA East, CUSA West, and MWC to the Merlliance arrangement. Perhaps even CUSA ceases to exist which nullifies the invites to La. Tech, Charlotte, etc. (but there's no reason to do so).

Huh? The Big East football schools are going to be homeless. They aren't going to get kicked out of the Big East, but the basketball schools have the votes and the claim to the name (this from 3 sources in 3 different athletic departments of BE basketball schools). The football schools will keep their NCAA credits, but there will have to be a new conference formed. Or, as AB said, CUSA goes to 16 or 18 with MWC getting to 12. The two leagues balance the geography, setup the Merlliance arrangement, and move on down the road. But, in any case, we can't "go to them" if the former BE football schools have no conference to call home.

This is becoming more of a reality now, blazr. The only current Big East schools left are Louisville, Cincy, Temple, and USF. Louisville/Cincy could be a packaged deal for someone, but I don't think the ACC is desperate enough to take them yet. Temple and USF really aren't that attractive.

There is no FN reason Boise and SDSU should join this league anymore. It was really stupid for SDSU to torpedo their basketball program over this.

Louisville apparently isn't a good match for the ACC. Not sure how Cincy or USF would be.

I was thinking that the ACC would try and take 3 of the 4 of Louisville, Cincy, USF, & UCONN, but it may only stay at just 1 team.

Wheels in the sky keep on turning......... Don't know where I'll be tomorrow.

Louisville will land somewhere, but they are a tougher call than you might think. The problem is Jurich. Sorry...The Problem is Tom Jurich (forgot that One is to use his Full Name and capitalize all Nouns when referring to Tom Jurich). If Tom Jurich resigned Today, Louisville would have at least 2 and maybe 3 Invites within an Hour.

Tom Jurich.
