RE: ODU Master Plan
I got a walk thru a couple weeks ago and it was explained most finishing touches were still to come. Expect some dressing up to follow.

Welp. Looks like I found my pre-game dinner joint for the foreseeable future. If only they could have had a location there 2 years ago, when I lived in that same building.

Lol. Hope we never get back to the days where we're arguing about how great an idea it is to keep playing in those tournaments. But if those banners go up as you say? My bets are off.
They are listed on our "Post Season" banner along side the NCAA tournament appearances.

RE: ODU Master Plan
because you already know, nothing motivates the recruits... (or current players) like a championship banner!
OK screw it, I suck at this...
Let's just hang a Kate Upton banner and be done.

ODU Master Plan
ODU needs to tear down the Powhatan apartments and the Inn. Build a big athletic village at Powhatan for all the athletes and new larger dorm where the Inn is located

What ODU really needs is a private developer to buy up everything from hampton blvd to Killam ave from 42nd street to the overpass at 21st and replace all of the sketchy stuff with mid to high level housing, research and office space, boutique shopping, art galleries, a nice grocery store, maybe a Target or Trader Joes, and performance venues etc. But give it some character rather than that bland, generic ODU village style. Thats all out of ODUs hands, but it would be a complete game changer for the university. Im convinced if ODU can ever overcome the safety/ghetto reputation and make the area around campus a fun, creative, interesting and safe place, it will thrive and become one of the most desirable schools in the state.

Yes this is a great point. I have always hope something like this would happen. I have to believe the bad neighborhoods are holding things up.

How do you think all this space will absorb within the market?

Also, this would really just be window dressing, as the crime problem exists on the other side of Killam that your proposal ignores. The best thing that could happen for ODU is an accelerated redevelopment through Park Place. It is starting to happen, but it is, unfortunately, happening in the parts of Park Place that are farthest away from campus.

Which will probably push the criminals closer to campus. Sigh.... I will say, that from the looks of it, Lamberts Point seems much better than when I was a student. Not sure if thats the case in reality, but is certainly the impression I get when driving through.
I also always thought that a grocery shopping center, and a fraternity row would be a nice buffer between campus and the hood. Add plenty of bike cops and extend the wall around more of campus on that side and we'd have the start of something good.

FWIW, they're building a shopping center in Lamberts Point between 23rd and 26th street. Should be pretty nice.

That project has been dormant for a while. It says the project should be completed by the end of 2017. I don't think it has even started. If it does it would help a lot.
