From what people are saying, that is a very gracious number. Tickets distributed maybe. But apparently the actual number was less than 5k. Since I wasn't there, I couldn't tell ya for sure.
Anyhow, it's good to see there seems to be some solid attendance at the SBC games this year.

they are still an FCS team, and one thats not winning. What do you expect....at the same time at this game is going on there was a Braves game, and GT was having their Football game.

Only one of those factors will change.
They will always battle GT, Braves, and UGA. And just like the Braves, fans will only show up when they are winning, and even then it might be tough to convince fans driving downtown and battling that mess is worth watching them on the field.

Actually it holds a tad over 22k...so it was over capacity. Time to expand it, to 40k, as what's in the long term plan.

Just because you fill it up once, doesn't mean you need to expand.
What are your season tickets total at? Now's the time to push the season ticket sales. Create a demand....then expand.

I expect them to play with fewer than 65,000 empty seats; it looks terrible for the conference. Get a right-sized stadium and figure out how to create some ticket demand.
GA State is joining the conference, so I want them to figure this out. However, they seem to have gone into football with the mindset of putting the product out there and letting Atlanta's big market status take care of the rest. In one important way, they've been right. Without any success on the field or at the box office, they've been invited to play FBS football. Meanwhile, small market App State sits on the sidelines with its quality program and passionate fans.
GA State has come this far. Now they need a solid plan of attack to ensure they belong at this level. First, develop the on-field product. Second, create a plan to grow attendance and make GSU football a 'must do' event. The stadium is a key issue. Few would consider an NFL stadium the right size for a Sunbelt team. GSU (and all our schools) needs to think smaller at first, create ticket demand, and gradually build out capacity.

Georgia State will be fine. They are still getting their feet under them, they'll experience some growing pains along the way, but they will not have much trouble getting their attendance to middle of the pack in the conference in a few seasons, where they go from there will depend on how successful they are.

They will have a tough time getting butts in the seats ever. Unlike other schools in Large Media markets, they have two long standing FBS programs right in their backyard not to mention all the other places to spend money in Atl.
They also are basically a commuter school with a large percentage of their student population in graduate school which means those students probably follow the school where they received their bachelors. Their large athletic budget is due to the fees students pay in which they have no choice if they want to go to school there. Not from alums throwing big money their way. Between not being successful on the field and the reasons above, their chances are slim.
You can call it butt hurt, obsession or whatever but those are the facts.

I've lived in the Atlanta area most of my life and am familiar with both the Atlanta sports landscape and the Georgia State program. Again they'll be fine. Getting in the neighborhood of 18k a game will not be difficult.
And you guys are obsessed, coming here posting anything negative you can about state.

Do the App State and Georgia Southern fans really have nothing better to do? Obsession and jealousy aren't strong enough words.

18k in an NFL stadium, that's the wrong way. Good attendance, sure, but not a good look.
My point remains: GSU and every other school in the conference needs a stadium that fits with demand. We all see where our league is headed, so wise stadium planning would involve something expandable. Alabama's Bryant-Denny did not become a 101,000-seat stadium overnight. They built out with the demand, and that's the right way to go.

RE: Attendance Numbers?
I'm one who really doesn't care a whole lot about the GSU thing one way or another. They're in the conference so I would like them to do well, but it's not gonna ruin my day if they fail either. Just a little background before saying how pathetic the Georgia Southern fans posting here are. It would be impossible for Georgia Southern fans to look like bigger failing babies than they do right now. In the past I have had respect for that program, but the ignorant whining from the fans is so distasteful that I think most here would be strongly against any future consideration for conference membership.

Good to see schools breaking their attendance records. Troy, ULM, and WKU have already this season. GO SBC!

Might want to wait a bit. 2 home games are not a real barometer.

Troy vs. Mississippi State - 29,013
ULM vs. Baylor - 31,175
WKU vs. Kentucky - 23,252
I don't see Troy breaking their new 29,013 record again this season. ULM might break their 31,000+ if they keep getting better, but I doubt it. GO SBC!
