As am I..

A thriving Boise State program is the BEST thing for the Big East. I totally concur with Mike Aresco's assessment of the reconfigured conference.
The Big East has not had a program with the national following of a Boise State since Miami left (when they were still good). Your out-of-this-world overall record over the past decade (as well as your BCS record) speaks to that.
The Broncos are the bellcow and I have no problem with that.

True that.

Speaking as a Houston fan, I know this to be true...
You can be 13-1 one minute... And have a Heisman candidate and be rolling a traditional ranked B1G powerhouse... the works...

...And then you can have your coach hired away the next minute, and be in rebuild mode...

I laugh when I hear the criticisms of Houston's rough start this year..

I imagine those arrogant UL fans may find out what life is like post-Charlie Strong reeeeeeeeeal soon...

And, all this holier than thou bs we've been hearing, about being so much better - after sucking for the last few years, will be drowned out by the whimpering.

As the old adage says... Try and act like you've been there before, gents.

After 7 years things are back to normal again BEHomer!!!!

nice try .

lol. He never backs that up with a source, while named experts are all on record as saying it will be SIGNIFICANTLY more than that...

Brett sure isn't much for transparency, although he is woefully transparent.

I hate this complaint. If all that you want are vetted press releases without any real information, then that's what you get when you ask for news that always name sources. We would literally get no news at all if reporters couldn't protect their sources (and that ranges from sports to things that are actually important like what's going on in Washington). It seems to me that people love inside information when it confirms news that they like, but then complain about "sources" when they get news that they don't like. You can't have it both ways. If you want something other than the boring P.C. crap that you hear at press conferences, then you need unnamed sources giving information to reporters.

The most oft-quoted source regarding the Big East (Neil Pilson, the former president of CBS Sports) has his own agenda because he owns the largest firm that represents leagues AGAINST the TV networks in negotiations. So, of course he wants to put it out there that the Big East should be getting a massive amount simply because it's live programming (ratings be dammed). If the Big East can get a massive payday just because it's sports for the sake of being sports, then what he's able to ask for with respect to his own higher profile clients (which include NASCAR, the Olympics and the Rose Bowl) skyrockets (and his own commission skyrockets, too).

That doesn't mean Pilson is going to be wrong. He might end up being completely correct about the Big East rights. However, just because Pilson is putting his name out there publicly means absolutely nothing or gives him more credibility than an inside source. He has a very clear agenda and, to be fair, whoever is throwing out lowball figures has the opposite agenda. In those situations, the truth is likely somewhere in the middle.

Frank, you make some great points and seem to know a lot about the ins and outs of this TV deal, its far more then I will ever know.

To me I just feel like its more about supply and demand. NBC Sports is dieing for programming that will attract even the casual fan, and more importantly bring their credibiality level up higher, closer to ESPN, CBS, and FOX.

I look at their scheduled programming and for example, this coming Saturday in New York the schedule is:
8:30 AM until Noon a variety of 30 minute hunting and outdoors shows
Noon – 12:30 College Bass Fishing
12:30 College Football Central
1:00 College Football Yale at Cornell
4:30 College Football Harvard at Brown
8:00 PM MLS Soccer
10:30 PM College Football Nevada at Hawaii

Try to sell advertising with that powerhouse line up.

To me, the idea that NBC sports will grossly overpay for a coast to coast football product that can give them end to end Saturday programming, as well as one of the top 2 basketball conferences in the country with 18 teams of inventory and plenty of brand recognition is definitely realistic and possible.

IMO it’s all about supply and demand and right now the only one selling is the Big East. I could easily be wrong but I like their chances.

College Bass Fishing?

You mean the SAME conference that Louisville has just a 13-22 conf football record in over the last 5 years?

If the conf is an ABOMINATION...then what does that say about UL Football? Ouch!

Yes, but those losses were to UC, West Virginia, Pitt and Rutgers. 03-phew

Or...we can just add up recent UL losses LAST YEAR at HOME to teams from the Sunbelt and CUSA too that show what an ABOMINATION UL Football had become.

Yep. They're all about the same, except BYU, probably.

Quote:The Big East is divided over whether to pursue Air Force or BYU as its 14th football member, while another option the conference is considering is a 16-team football league by adding Army, Air Force and BYU,

Quote:But until Navy and a 14th member are on board, Aresco said Thursday that the league would be split into two six-team divisions, most likely East and West. The Big East will hold a conference championship game next season at the site of the league's top team based on best record or highest BCS ranking.

When the Big East grows to 14, league officials already have had discussions how to split the divisions. The most popular 14-team model, sources said, would be "Red" and "Blue" divisions that are non-geographic.

The Red Division would consist of Louisville, South Florida, Connecticut, San Diego State, SMU, Navy and Memphis. The Blue Division: Cincinnati, Central Florida, Rutgers, Boise State, Houston, Temple and the 14th team.

Each team would play six league games within its division and two games against the other division, including one permanent cross-division rival game. Those annual cross-division matchups would be: Louisville-Cincinnati; USF-UCF; UConn-Rutgers; San Diego State-Boise State; SMU-Houston; Navy-Temple and Memphis vs. the 14th team.

1. That "Red" division is pathetic outside of Louisville, who would be a shoe-in for the championship game every year against either Cincinnati, Rutgers, or Boise State.
2. This conference is a friggin joke now.
3. BYU >>>>>>>>>> Air Force
4. The Big East may as well add both BYU and Air Force after Louisville heads for greener pastures.
5. Louisville shouldn't be forced to play away games in front of 20k crowds at SMU, SDSU or Memphis every year. That's degrading for any team.
6. This conference is an abomination.
7. That TV deal, if accurate, is pathetic.
8. I still don't understand what SMU and Memphis bring to the conference aside from automatic wins for the other teams.

Thank God you're not running the conference. The decisions that were made were done after studying the schools, the teams, the markets, the potential, and probably a dozen other factors. But you're sitting there in your underwear making rash, emotional judgments about who is worthy and who is not.

If Louisville is so great, win the conference the next five years, expand your stadium to 75,000, and maybe you'll get picked up by another conference. Until then, try not to spout off about how crappy this place is.

You guys have only had to listen to Louisville for about 10 years. Cincy and Memphis have put us with their BS for over 50 years, starting in the 60's Missouri Valley Conference. In actuality, none of us like to lose to each other, and the ragging goes on continuously. In Memphis, we root for anybody playing Louisville or Tennessee, because that's just the way it is. No love. Just hate. Lots or crazy things happen when we play each other, and it is always heated. Sometimes there are fights before, during and after the game. It can get wild.

Didn't the admins create Louisville their own x-tra VIP double-secret board for times like these? I mean granted, that piece of crap averages about 2 new posts/week, but still. Certain convos need to be in certain areas.

Hey at least my team isn't 0-4 with losses to UT-Martin, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee State, and Duke. Hell even we beat Arkansas State and MTSU when Krags was here. Is Memphis staring down the barrel of an 0-12 season?

I would actually love this setup, especially if BYU is the 14th. A schedule with USF, Cincinnati, Rutgers, Boise State, BYU, Houston, and Temple every year? I'm down.

agree...as you look at it and as a UC fan...if we had Ru, Boise, BYU, UCF, USF, UH, Temple...coming into the NIP each year in whatever order I would take that in a heartbeat. Throw in cross div rivalry with UofL...that's solid folks
