If geography were the end-all, the SEC would not have put Missouri in the SEC East. Nor would ND have joined the ACC.

Biggest news is the BS that byu fans have been peddling of making 6, then 4 months later 8, then 4 months later 10 million in tv money is all nonsense. Still have to solve some stuff, like BYUtv not being a waste of 20mil, but they seem more likely knowing the real figure

RE: McMurphy: Big East could go to 16 and lots of other news
Sorry guys, but $130M is not crazy. Obviously there have been higher estimates, but the highest estimate from a semi-neutral source was Neal Pilson. (Frank is right, no one is really neutral, but he’s as neutral as we’re going to get.)
New York Times Wrote:Neal Pilson, a media consultant and former president of CBS Sports, predicted that the Big East could surpass the deal it turned down last year, which was considered similar in value to the A.C.C.’s $155 million annual deal.
“I think if they stay together and negotiate as a single unit, I think they can come away with a reasonably favorable result,” Pilson said. “Even more than what ESPN offered a year and a half ago. I think the competition will drive it.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/08/sports...ref=sports
There are two different ranges here, “similar in value to the ACC’s $155M” and “more than ESPN offered” in April. All the reporting around April 2011 was that the Big East spiked an offer around $110-120M. So Pilson is implying something in the $100M-$150M range for all sports.
Remember, people, this is the Big East. That estimate is for the total package. The old Big East basketball contract was for $32M (ESPN and CBS combined) and the new contract isn’t going to be less than that, even trading Syracuse, Pitt, West Virginia and Notre Dame for Temple and Memphis.

I don't see those divisions if BYU is added. The Blue division is wayyy more competitive with Boise, BYU, Cincy, and Rutgers. They should just go true East West.
Red:
Louisville
USF
UConn
SDSU
SMU
Navy
Memphis
Blue:
Cincinnati
UCF
Rutgers
Boise
Houston
Temple
BYU

The TV market research firm quoted from the San Diego Union-Times had outlined a deal worth $166M overall - and could be more with BYU.

That's above Neil Pilson's $130M. And they have no reason to be biased.

I think they're being pretty honest about what ESPN plans to offer.
And I forgot about the SDSU consultant, which is strange because it was a pretty convincing study.

That wasn't even an SDSU consultant, the then SDSU beat writer contacted that firm independent of SDSU. I believe someone else mentioned that they were a good deal low in their estimate of the pac12 deal too.

Correct. The PAC-12 estimate done 6 months out by this firm (as this one was done 6 months before the Nov. 1 timeline) was about 30% lower than the final number. Not to say that the BE will get the same level of bump, but even a 20% jump from their estimate would mean over $9M/year for FB-only, $4M/year for BB-only, and $13M/year for all-sports.

McMurphy is on TV right now saying the Big East will get their media deal and then decide on who to invite. Seems to me they would ask what team is worth what before they negotiated a final number.

thats what they would do.. people forget these guy have to talk about something every day. . to believe these guys word for word is just naive. None of these guys are creditable anymore cause if they're wrong nothing happeneds. In the last 2 year all they have been doing is shooting in the dark and hoping something sticks.

They write the contracts with stipulations for member changes, pretty standard from what I've gathered. This will be part of it whether we have 13 or 16 members at the time it is signed.
