Good timing. They're showing a replay of the game on Sportsouth right now.

And I would assume you know Stephen/igoe4eastcarolina is doing media as far as articles.

Nah, nothing official. Mine is purely a fan site at this point. Stephen is doing the articles and actually helped us out with one pre-game.

As for the game itself, the outcome was obviously disappointing. The INT late that put a tired ASU defense back on the field was a real back breaker. I hated to see it get away from us late, as I really think the game was a lot more competitive than the 35-13 final. The better team won though, the depth really showed on special teams and in the 4th quarter.

Most frustrating aspect for Appalachian is the personnel problems. We had our #1 WR and starting free safety suspended for violating team rules shortly before the game, and they are both likely to be suspended for a huge FCS game against Montana next week. We also lost our starting cornerback/punt returner Doug Middleton (broken foot) and our starting RB Rod Chisholm (broken hand) in the game yesterday. Chisholm is out 4-6 weeks and Middleton is awaiting his surgery results. Considering all we had to deal with on that front, I think we put forth a pretty strong effort to hang tough as long as we did.

Y'all have a good team though, congrats on the win. A lot of team speed and solid depth on an oppressively hot day. Good luck the rest of the way, I'll be rooting for you guys. Did y'all get out OK on the injury front?

What TV channel is carrying the Montana game? That's going to be a great one to watch.

Unfortunately, I think the only way you can watch it is on ESPN3. It is at 6:30 next Saturday.

I'll be there to see it live. After this weekend, it sure will feel nice to tailgate in 70 degree weather and watch a game in 65!

Injury-wise, NT Michael Brooks may be done for an extended period of time with a knee injury he suffered in the first quarter. Doesn't sound good.

Good game though. Sucks about all the big plays App gave up, but good for ECU. The Pirates have been on that side of the equation many times where they've outplayed a BCS school, only to wash it away with turnovers and special team miscues.

And btw, my site also began as a fan site, but hard work and dedication kept it going and now it's blossomed into the special place it is today. So we definitely have something in common. You ever need anything Mike, feel free to call me or email me.

Damn man, I'm sorry to hear about Brooks. Always stings to lose a guy in the opener, especially a talented kid like that. Hopefully he recovers soon and yall have a good season.

Like we both said going into it, Appalachian has a talented group of starters and could pull the upset if they played near mistake-free football. Obviously, we did not do that and ECU pulled it out.

Thanks a lot for the offer, I have got your contact info. We've only been up and running for about a month and a half but we are putting in a lot of work and it is taking off very well thus far. Our goal is to take it to that next level and when we're ready, I definitely may reach out to you for some pointers.

Great! I look forward to seeing that one. Best wishes for an undefeated (FCS) season.

What the heck?

No surprise:

1) ECU is breaking in a new QB
2) ECU's placekicker is 0-for-2
3) Appalachian State is an upper-echelon FCS program

ECU's victory margin will be somewhere near the 8 points I predicted earlier in the thread, just as soon as App State's conditioning becomes a concern for them.

It was no surprise to me that ASU put up a strong early showing, that is a very competitive program there, they don't roll over for anyone, ask Michigan (have the Wolverines even played them since that last historic encounter in Ann Arbor?), or for that matter, ask Auburn.

I think it was in Tuberville's 1st season with AU as head coach, he/they bought their way out of having to play Florida State in the season opener, and penciled App State in their place, assuming they would have a cakewalk. IIRC, Auburn only won that game by 1 point.

Make no mistake, Appalachian State is nobody's patsy, and sooner or later, it wouldn't surprise me if they were to move up to D-1 & try to join a conference like the the Sun Belt, Atlantic-10 or Conference USA someday.
