Agreed. As long as Air Force can get a suitable home for non-football sports (IMHO, the WCC is the optimal target), then I see them as next in line.

AFA has no place to put there team.

WCC? Don't see USF or USD or LMU flying out to Colorado Springs to play the flyboys and gals in anything.

It is what it is......

to me this means that BE schools will be playing some Big West home & homes in basketball
I wouldn't bet on that. The BE is going to play some home and homes BB with SDSU and Boise, but I highly doubt there is any agreement for BE schools to play anybody else in those little gyms in the BWC.

I don't bet. 03-lol Especially on my own suppositions. 03-lmfao
03-lmfao Yeah, I know. And if you saw a pic of some of those gyms, you might change your supposition. I can see us giving the BWC some road games, though. Or 2 road games for one neutral game, perhaps.

We were out there this year playing Oakland and Utah Valley. I could see Houston and SMU agreeing to be sent out there if it helped Boise get the deal done.

Im still very optimistic about BYU joining with Navy, but I would be fine with either Air Force or Fresno if thats the final way things fall. Im actually feeling for the first time that I may actually be low in my 12-15 million per all sports team prediction.....it's been a good week.

I believe they will try to get BYU on board using a new media contract as bait. But if BYU says no again, its Fresno State and here is why I think that. It would only make sense that the Big West would want Fresno as the 12th to come in with Boise State and probably illicited some kind of agreement to that end with the Big East that both conferences would issue a Fresno invite should BYU decline again. The Big West has wanted Fresno almost as bad as they did SDSU.

All I know is that right now I am breathing a huge sigh of relief to be assured that Boise State is going to be a member of the Big West along with SDSU and Hawaii, and we are finding a stable home for our Oly sports. 04-bow

The Big East will approach BYU first. If they turn it down, they'll approach AFA second. Hopefully, one of them will agree to join. There is no third place team that would provide any value.

Whatever. Navy is already on record that it is NOT important to keep playing AF every year. And AF has made it very clear they like being in the same conference as CSU and Wyoming. I don't think the Big East is going to risk another public embarrassment and humiliation by being turned down by either AF or BYU. It sounds and looks weak, and the nBE will pay a price for that.

If talks are ongoing, they are/or will be in secret and those will be with BYU. If BYU walks again, Frenso will get the nod.

Fresno would not add any value. We'd lose money on the contract if we added them.

Fresno State would provide another anchor for the nBE in the huge California market. They would bring in the central California market from Bakersfield north to San Francisco. Fresno alone is the #55th media market in the US, and right behind Louisville (#50).

Frenso State is a well known comodity with a national brand and huge fan base. Remember the Bulldogs challenge to the BCS "Anybody, anytime, anywhere" from just a few years ago?

Bulldog stadium seats over 41,000 and in the recent past they regularly filled it and will do so again under their new head coach. But for Boise State in their way they would have won several WAC championships.

They bring existing rivalries with both Boise State and San Diego State, and they would accept a football only invite, because they would be welcomed in the Big West for their Oly sports.

These guys have a national fanbase and are always popular on sports networks.

Yeah, a boat anchor.

We don't need them. If BYU and AFA decline, we should look elsewhere.

There really aren't any other options. Unless the BE looks at UNLV I would guess. Or abandons further western expansion and looks at ECU or something.

It's pretty obvious the BE is pursuing BYU and AFA. To my knowledge they have never publicly acknowledged any interest in Fresno. That said, I agree Fresno is pretty attractive, and should be grabbed if BYU/AFA craps out. The question is, how long will it drag out? As was discussed on other threads, this will take years... BYU wants to see 'what happens' with the nBE, and the nBE is in no hurry, as #14 will start with Navy in 2015. So, (sigh), it's gonna be a looooooong wait. Unfortunately.

The only team that adds actual value to the contract is BYU, so AFA is no more valuable a choice than Fresno. Further, the Academies were the old guard's pet project, we can't assume that project is still active. Fresno adds the Valley and gives the conference a second team in California, and those are two very valuable intangibles.

If Aresco, Bevilacqua, and Carparelli can get the Big East a contract in the neighborhood of $17-20M for all-sports members, I get the feeling BYU will be a bit more agreeable to joining.

RE: Boise State all set to join Big West
For TV contract negotiations, it doesn't really matter who $14 is, or if it is even decided. After BYU, who adds a bit of a kick to the numbers, everybody else is essentially the same.

I agree that BYU is still Target #1, AFA is #2, and nobody is #3. If it gets that far, the next suspects almost have to be Fresno on the west coast, and USM or ECU on the east. But if nobody is leaving, we likely won't add more all sports teams, and California is a much better market, so I think Fresno would have a decent chance then. That would give us two teams each in Florida, Texas and California.

Remember, we are now being led by a TV exec, lol. I can bet that is how he is thinking, or will be, if it gets to that point.

BYU is already onboard with what the BE can guarantee, the rest is up to the networks and something in writing lol

I think it's going to be BYU, anyway. IF we snag a deal in that range, I'd say it's a safe bet.

Second, I am all for Fresno as team #14 since I am in CA. I really think Fresno is the best option long term wise. If BYU comes to term, I imagine they will be #14. Our new TV partner will have something to say about this.

Husky, these are the same guys at ESPiN and CBS that have moved on...to telling us how we are going to get only $8-$10 million for all sports on our new contract. LOL

The more I think about it, the more SDSU likely isn't pushing for Fresno anyway as we were for most of the WAC and MWC the last 40 years the only team in cali (save a couple years at the end of the wac and this year in the MWC) and it's advantageous for us to be Machiavellian and kill the other 2 teams in cali and in 1aa that aren't in the Pac.

Umm, Oakland is north of Detroit, near Auburn Hills.
