Steve, I am going to relax! I'm going to walk to the park with a bag full of nuts and feed the squirrels. How is that for relaxing?
That sounds like lunacy.

I would highly recommend not doing that.
I've only seen a handful of people feeding nuts to squirrels. They all have the same glazed look on their face....and from the smell of it, they all wear adult undies.
I recommend turning on the end of the Tiger game. Sherzer has been dealing all game. Tigers are up 4-0 in the 8th. Now that's relaxing! (unless Valverde or Benoit wants to implode)

RE: There is a published rumor (Men's hoops - Murphy)
Unless I've missed something, there hasn't been a good rumor about Murphy all day...
We've digressed into nuts, squirrels, etc. etc. but the rumor mill has gone dry.
I'm starting to wonder if the rumor was a bit premature.

I'll ask the squirrels if they have heard anything.
Typical of EMU - MUMS the word!

Regardless of whether Murphy stays or goes, I no longer have any respect for him. If this is all about him "blackmailing" the administration for a raise, tell him no.

Anybody know why in the world he'd leave for a job in the scouting department of a NBA team.
Is there something negative thats about to come out?

What a cluster-F. Recruits and players are under the impression that he's still the coach, yet he won't confirm nor deny his job status?
What a puke. Go down to Florida already.

Agreed. At least respect EMU enough to make your decision quickly.
And you leave the players in the dark too? Come on man. Either leave or stay, but don't drag it out.

RE: There is a published rumor (Men's hoops - Murphy)
Let's also not forget that during the interview process, EMU did NOT pursue Rob Murphy. He was not even a candidate. Rob Murphy BEGGED EMU for an interview, saying it was his dream job. Eastern Michigan University took a leap of faith, went out on a limb to give this guy a chance, his first college (at any level) head coaching job and this is how they are rewarded? Doesn't this show the true character of the guy? And if so, would you want him anywhere near your program? This is nothing like Tom Izzo mulling the opportunity to coach LeBron James, this is about a liar leaving a DI head coaching job-- a team on the rise, clearly poised to contend for a conference title! For what?! The crappy job offer in Orlando is hardly a once in a lifetime opportunity, you have to believe similar opportunities would be there again. To sh** on his players and the EMU administration who stuck their necks out for him is beyond strange, it borders on pathological.
Unlike most people here, I never liked him as a coach. I hated his offense and I was not a fan of his zone defense. His style reminded me of women's basketball... circa 1984, but still, I can't believe that he would have the audacity to pull this. I mean, even Bobby Petrino and Nick Saban are sitting at home saying, "what an a-hole that Rob Murphy is."

Bob, I totally agree with you. I don't want Murphy around here anymore, get me a coach that wants to be here and actually believes in loyalty rather than mercencary self promotion. Murphy has harmed this program beyond belief. What recruit would play for a guy that is always on the hunt for the next extra $$$? Two Face didn't die in the Dark Knight he came back as Rob Murphy.

F#@K Rob Murphy, I'm actually contemplating a web domain of the same title F#@kRobMurphy.com
think about the assistant coaches he brought in, that uprooted their families left jobs to be loyal to him and EMU. What an A$$h@le.

RE: There is a published rumor (Men's hoops - Murphy)
I'm not burning bridges nor am I castigating Murphy.
I want to see:
a). The outcome (I hope he stays)
b). Reasons why the outcome occurred.
P.S. to Dennis, there is no way in hell that EMU is going to comment until the issue is resolved. Neither will the Orlando Magic. This is not a political campaign where instant responses are the order of the day.
The Magic will probably issue a brief press release after a). Murphy signs with the Magic, and b). Murphy tenders his resignation to EMU (assuming that will be the outcome but our information still seems to be 48 hours old and the longer nothing happens than maybe nothing WILL happen).
We have folks here who have business degrees or have worked in the private (or public) sector and know how enterprises are run. I worked in federal government headquarters for over 30 years. I know how big enterprises function.
EMU and EMU athletics are NOT like a mom and pop operation. It is a large enterprise with a budget of over 250M bucks and needs to be run as such.
When the issue is resolved EMU will probably comment (most likely thanking Rob for his service and indicate whether the AD wants to go with an interim coach or begin a search now).

RE: There is a published rumor (Men's hoops - Murphy)
There is no such thing as a college basketball coach search a month and a half before the season starts! If Murphy is gone, there will be an interim coach for the season. I mean, do you not realize the lurch he's left the team in? Are you really fine with that? Empypo, on this very site had it right about coach Murphy MONTHS AGO and all he ever got from the posters (cheerleaders) here was grief. Well...you can spin it any way you want, but this move by Murf is unprecedented in its dickiness and I for one, am glad he's gone.

When I listed what a press release might include it was there are two POSSIBLE courses:
1). appoint an interim coach
2). Start a search.
I never said which I expected Dr. Gragg to pick.
If there is a 3rd option I don't know what it would be.
As far as that poster and Murphy he didn't seem to like some of Murphy's recruits and lately Murphy's persona.
Do those recruits also say adios EMU and head for different universities.
If those players (at least several newcomers were to leave) that would decimate the '12 recruiting class (at least 1/2 of it).

That's why I say Mike Brown is the best option. He has a relationship with those players and he can stabilize the situation. A brand new coach and those recruits are gone, I guarantee you that. As I've posted before, our greatest coach ever, Ben Braun started as an interim coach after Jim Boyce got canned. It worked out pretty well for us.
