RE: More Conference Movements
Dukes09,

Unless there are a lot of eastern (and I mean EASTERN TIME ZONE) teams in the conference, playing games at 10:00 p.m. won't do much for the JMU faithful.

MAC fans ***** about a 7:00 p.m. weeknight game in November (for television) how about a weeknight game starting at 10:00 p.m. (might be great for retirees but for the guy who starts work at 7 or 8 in the morning)...

Most of our fans are pretty divided on multiple ways on this and there's almost no unison. It's almost a 1/4 split between the CUSA, MAC, WAC and stay FCS options and no one can agree on anything haha.

I honestly don't know which I would prefer at this point, WAC or MAC. MAC is more stable, has more immediate money and obvious better recognition than a new WAC conference. I do want regional rivals though and Delaware, App State in my conference are hard to turn down.

Either way, its still very much a rumor, the usual parties have denied it all as per protocol. Meanwhile the WAC says "nothing until january". you're a dying conference, every day counts buddy...

What you ask is difficult because the MAC is at 13.

Obviously, JMU + Delaware = 15, another 'odd' number.

Somebody better claim #14, while it is still there and worry about secondary details later.

Maybe JMU can be #14 and then see if the MAC can add Delaware and I'd think Stony Brook down the line.

"Call me crazy" (is that a song title), but I have a GUT feeling that Stony Brook would try to compress six years of athletic development into 2 or 3 if they could to grab a FBS slot while they are still out there...

the specific teams are jmu, Appalachian state, delaware, liberty, georgia southern and jacksonville state. all are eastern time zone teams except JSU who is barely in the central time zone, plus nmsu and idaho of course.
i'm very much on the fence, i like the idea of the mac, but i also want a new east coast conference at the same time...
just sharing for those that are interested, it's a rumor that won't go away.

I would hope that if this was serious and it had legs, if the mac had ANY interest in jmu and/or delaware, that there would be a better sense of urgency from their camps to get us before someone else does.

RE: More Conference Movements
Dear Friends,
About two weeks ago, I read an article right from the WAC Commissioner, that the WAC was considering a conference alignment without football. If, the article has some authority, and I were a school with a football team, that wanted to continue playing football, I would be heading towards the exit immediately.

RE: More Conference Movements
I e-mailed a writer who wrote the story on Stony Brook --> CAA.

My e-mail title was: Curious if Stony Brook attempts to join the MAC in say 4 years as MAC FB #14

His reply to my e-mail was (3 words):

never can tell!

>>> 08/04/12 7:09 AM >>>
Would seem to be a perfect 'bookend' for UMass as the MAC has been moving
eastward (e.g., UB in the 90s, and then Temple).

I have a bumper sticker for JMU faithful:

"MAC, not WAC, FB" along the top edge of the football.

This would be the one huge upside to a bunch of East Coast FCS schools bailing out the WAC...

Competition would be such that they won't be doormats right off the bat. Some will fair better than others but you wont have back to back winless seasons.

===

I agree with what someone else said up thread... We have to act like UMass is not sticking around, even if we hope they are. Run a list of four or five invites by the minutemen and ask "which of these programs gets you into the MAC" (even if the list includes a couple of schools with no football)...

If UMass says no then cut them loose in the contractual manner and either stay at 12 or go get two that the full members agree on.

App State, JMU and Delaware would not be doormats in the WAC (or the MAC). They would be competitive, middle of the pack, teams right off the bat.
