$1.5 million or 12.5% for your flagship sport? Where is the other $10.5 million being spent?
This confirms that ETSU could be funding a competitive FCS football program on the current budget!!!!
How does that confirm it? Go ahead and break down the budget and show where the $2.5-$3 million for a football team will come from.
First ETSU is going to be saving over $0.5 million on travel each year back in the Southern without all the plane trips and hotel rooms, etc.Usually back on campus the night-of after the bus ride. Plus ETSU will be getting roughly $0.5 million from the FBS game. This will not only pay for the coaching staff for the entire year but get the University invaluable publicity that they could not otherwise obtain at any price. Plus ETSU will be getting roughly $0.5 million in gates receipts during a given year. I do not know the money paid for playing a regional game on tv but maybe someone can post those amounts but we can get one or more of those games possibly. Then Dr. Noland could start a fund raising campaign specifically for football. It would not only be a welcome relief to have an ETSU president ask for money for football but since about $400K was raised in one month back in 05(?) I believe a concerted effort could land $0.5 million for Buc football. Now if we spend $0.5 of the $12 million athletic budget that would make the budget for football about $2.5 million for an FCS level football team that would get ETSU back on the map and acting like a state uuniversity again. That would leave about $11.5 million for basketball and the minor sports and ETSU would flourish. Now the tennis coach cannot do it because he is not able or willing to do it. It will take a new, competent athletic director who has the experience and vision to run a state university. People could be brought in from other football playing schools and reorganize athletics to make ETSU's department resemble its sister schools in the state of Tennessee and alumni and fans can finally have something to have pride in for a change.

$2.5 million to $3 million to football offset with annual FBS games and ticket sales/other revenue, continue funding men's and women' basketball at their current levels offset with major school away scheduling and ticket sales/other revenue, and the rest goes to the other sports -- the Georgia Southern model. Now, if you want to increase athletic spending beyond these levels, raise it through private donations, restricted and unrestricted.
