RE: PSU going to get very hard Monday?
I still believe that the reason why the men at Penn State and those in the high ranks at Second Mile covered up was because they were all involved in child molestation. Could be wrong, but something has been very odd with the whole thing and what if this turns up to be a major child trafficking and molestation scandal that ends up putting hundreds behind bars? It would make my day to see the people behind child sex trafficking get caught and put behind bars.

Making excuses already? That doesn't look like you have much confidence in your team.

It's a great opportunity for Ohio U. Solich is a very good coach; he'll do his best to prepare the Bobcats for what they're going to face in Happy Valley.

don't be ridiculous; of course i have faith and confidence in my team and my coach. i know they will be prepared, but i also know if we don't win the game, people are going to come out of the woodwork saying we're overrated and this and that. and all i'm saying is you can't judge a team's entire season on just one game - whether we win or lose the game.

Fair enough. We got hammered by Wisconsin last year and it was still a great year for us.

A lot of people say that Ohio has a chance for a very special season. If you're going to beat Penn State, this is the year with everything that's happened there.

yeah you bring up a very good point in that you did lose to Wisconsin but went on to have a great year, a year i hope we can replicate this year! i do think we have a chance to beat PSU, but i'm trying not to get too excited about it in case it doesn't happen! disappointments are hard to take.

First of all, lets not forget that Big10 backups are still top quality, highly ranked recruits that any MAC school would build a program around. Penn State may drop to the level of Wisconsin or Illinois, but the program isn't drop to the level of a FCS team. I'm not saying it's not possible to beat them, but it won't be a walk in the park either.

The catch-22 is that if you do beat Penn State, it will be dismissed because of their "troubles". An asterisk in the record book for sure.

By the same token, if you lose, how will the polls react to the loss? You lost to a weakened Penn State.

RE: PSU going to get very hard Monday?
USC got levied some heavy sanctions yet many have them #1 in the preseason polls. I don't think the sanctions are severe for the 1st year or two, but then they do get much more severe. First season it's no bowl game, big deal. Second year again no bowl game and 10 less recruits - that!s 10 kids that would be redshirted anyway. Now 3rd year and onward the scholarship limits start compounding you must make sure that while you can only have 65 kids you got the right 65. Some of those kids that left did them a favor, to weed out those that will count against the limits. Sure Redd hurts but with the new offense it was a question mark as to what to expect, bigger loss was the kicker/punter. Rest of the defections weren't as vital.

So it's important they nail their recruiting classes. Instead of 25 kids that 15 or so see the field and 10 don't ever make an impact, they need to make sure that top 15 is dead on.

RE: PSU going to get very hard Monday?
My algorithm for PSU's 2013 roster:

PSU2013 = July 1, 2012 roster - 10 transfers (approximate) - 2012 senior class + 15 new recruits - any additional post season transfers out (after 2012 season ends).

Then repeat for the 'out years'"

PSU2014 = 2013 roster - 2103 seniors + 2014 new recruits - any net transfer out.

and so on and so on...

USC scammed the system. They appealed the scholarship reductions while accepting the bowl bans, so their last couple of classes have been full 20+ player top 5 groups. Their actual scholarship losses begin this year.

I understand that, I read the article. Makes me think even less of Kiffin (is that possible?) after he put a full court press on for Silas Redd w/o any available scholarships. He's a scumbag, he and USC deserve each other.

I'm not a Kiffin fan by any means. But I don't fault him on how he manipulated the system to his advantage. By accepting the bowl ban and appealing the scholly limits, he basically lessened the blow. There isn't a single person in the country that wouldn't do the same thing, assuming they are/were smart enough.

Think about it. If you get a ticket for going 55 in a 30mph zone....and you get slapped with a $150 ticket and 3+ points on your license...wouldn't you pay the fine and fight to get the points reduced??? Fair or not fair, the system allows you to do this. Ditto for the NCAA. Blame them for being negligent.

Tom O'Brien will not try and manipulate the system, and he is smart enough, he just so happens to have some dignity.

Former Arkon WR Jared Fagnano transfers to PSU

Was not invited to camp so decides to transfer to PSU. I don't agree with the NCAA that he has to sit a year though.

Tom O'Brien's school gave up the right to appeal in exchange for continuing to have a football program. His dignity doesn't come into play.
