RE: 4-star QB headed to Eastern Michigan
This has been an interesting topic to follow considering it is being discussed on the main board as well as NIU, WMU, EMU, and the Toledo boards.

The reality is the kid was good enough to generate interest from Big Ten schools. At some point, they cooled off on him and decided not to offer...or they still might offer. In the meantime, he saw his offers from Miami, Toledo, Kent St and Ohio all evaporate because of other kids who committed recently.

Whether or not he gets downgraded or stays the same is completely irrelevant (unless you take pride in beating down EMU every chance you get). The rest of us should be somewhat happy that EMU is making positive strides in the recruiting area. I strong MAC is good for all of us. And when/if they start winning consistently, this subject (while justified) probably won't be taken so personally by our fellow EMU posters.

Hardly.

+1 Remember the last time Temple was in a BCS conference they certainly weren't recruiting like a MAC program. They didn't start recruiting like a mid-level MAC program 'til they joined the MAC.

Great thread! What's even more interesting about this is that ESPN says that the other QB we got is better than Broback:

I will tell you what, EMU is going to turn some heads in the next year or two. They have a very strong recruiting class that they signed in February. RB Juwan Lewis is the real deal. WR Mitchell Dawkins is a sleeper that has the potential to be one of the best wide receivers in the conference in a couple of years. They brought in a couple of JUCO players on defense that are going to help immediately.

I agree with them. Bossard's a true dual-threat QB. He runs in a triple option offense in high school so he's a bit untested with the passing game, but he threw for similar stats that Roback did despite less pass attempts.

If his actual 40 times is 4.65, that's not a slow at all. Harnish ran in the 4.7's at the combine and racked up 1400 rushing yards last year. Not sure how much I trust high schoolers 40 times though.

As for EMU, I don't see them being a serious threat in the West running the offensive style they did last year. Now, they may have just done that out of need, but I have a hard time seeing them winning anything playing offense like that. That's not a knock on English because obviously he's doing an incredible job, but I just don't know how far you can go with that.

I'm really looking forward to the Ball State/EMU game on the opening Thursday.

I will be pulling Roback. A better Eastern is good for the MAC. And it seems that the MAC is picking up it's game in recruiting.

I agree, I was hoping Miami landed him, but hope he works out for EMU and they win some out of conference games with him.

Yea, I think so too. That would be the case for any MAC team.

high school and even college 40 times are always slower than the electronic 40 times at the combine. The other part you guys are forgetting is there is something called speed that you can time in a 40 yard dash and something called football speed. Eric Page did not have very good "speed" and that was reflected in his 40 time, but he had "football speed" and you saw that when he had a football in his hands on the field. I would say the same for Harnish and it was the same with Gradkowski. IMO, Roback does not have "football speed."

First, Brogan is the real deal and is a coup for Eastern. Committing is a delicate process when you're in the 80th percentile. People I've spoke with said Michigan State, Purdue, and Indiana are have offers pending but are stalking "bigger fish" At the end of the day, I think the Eagles is the best choice for Brogan.

The real deal like Dysert and Radcliff, who are the #2 and #3 NCAA active leaders in career interceptions?

If you think Dysert is not the real deal, either you have not gotten a chance to watch him play often enough to evaluate him or you do not know how to evaluate QB's... Also, while you point out his interceptions you do not point out that he is 2nd in the NCAA in career passing yardage. The interceptions are a result of inadequate pass protection by the OL, resulting in Dysert running for his life most games throughout his career. I would say, other than Ben, we have never had a better QB.

I was googling Charlie Batch's rating, which I know was high because at one point he had offers from the likes of Michigan State. Best I learned he had kidney poisoning from a high school painting gig and his stock dropped. And then I found this story. Wow. I am a huge Charlie Batch fan.

Charlie is a remarkable person. BTW that article was written by Jeff Arnold who used to cover EMU for the Ann Arbor News. A pretty damned good writer as you probably can guess.

This conference needs another star QB like it had plenty of in the early 2000s. Maybe this one will be it?
