Men's Basketball Recruiting
Commitment from 2018 6-5 Trey Murphy III. Out of North Carolina. Offers from Army and Navy among others. Really good shooter. Shot 45+% from 3 and 90+% from the line. First thing that sticks out on his highlight reels is his range. Can hit from anywhere.

Nice to get the 1st commitment for the 2018 class. It will be interesting to see how many scholarships we end up giving out for the season. By my count, we have a possible 4 but haven't we also read that both of the graduate transfers could get another year possibly? Plus one of the other walk-ons could be on scholarship so it may only be 3 either way. I do think we need to get at least 1 big guy. The current roster has just 3 guys who are 6-8 and 1 who is 6-9, but none are listed as a center.

Now that we are recruiting multiple years out, could we split this thread similarly to the football recruiting threads? Especially since this thread started with the Drone commitment!!

Per VC, our breakdown of 2018 offers is as follows:
G: 12
SF: 6
PF/C: 5

And for those who see another non-Texan commit and want more Texans, a regional 2018 offer breakdown:
Texas: 8
NC/SC/VA: 3
West: 5
Northeast: 2
Midwest: 2
Southeast: 1

Excellent and it is about time Texas is being recruited.

Missed this but we're in the final 11 for 2018 wing Rip Economou. Other notables on the list are Utah State, UTEP, Davidson, and BU. He's visiting UTEP this week, which isn't surprising considering they offered him very early on in the process.

Couple more housekeeping notes:
-2018 big man Brady Heiman committed to Nebraska. Not surprising considering he's from Nebraska.
-2018 G Trey McGowens, who we offered a bit ago (might've actually been offered by the last staff considering VCU made his final 7) removed Rice from consideration.

Thought Iwould post this here since it relates to recruiting. Rice made the list of schools in this season's transfer wars.

It wasn't this morning. Basically just mentioned how Rhoades left and took Evans with him. Mentioned the other transfers and their new homes. Said how Pera basically has to start over.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting
Also of note, 2018 G Ajarre Sanni posted a picture of 8 schools on twitter with Rice included. He says it's not final, but good to know he's considering us. Notable for multiple reasons: his dad played at Rice, he's from Houston and knows a lot of '18/'19/'20 Houston kids, and his dad has an AAU team in Houston. He's also one of the best pure scorers in Texas, as is evident by him scoring 53 points against LaMelo Ball's AAU team.

I should note that it wouldn't be surprising for a team like Stanford to jump in and offer (he's taken an unofficial visit already). He really is an important guy to get because he could really be a useful tool in recruiting the Houston area.

He's Jarvis Kelley Sanni, who played at two seasons at Rice (1996-97 & 1997-98), transferring in after a Final Four freshman year with Arizona. He then played in Belgium, France and the stateside Continental and United States basketball leagues.

Came the same time Bobby Crawford came from Michigan.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting
New commitment from 3* 2018 G Payton Moore. I'll update the post when I watch him a little. Offers from us, UTEP, and Nevada (some people have him with offers from USC and Boise State). 6-4 out of Los Angeles. Borderline 4* according to a couple sites. Description I'm getting most from scouting sites is just a competitor. Plays hard nosed on both sides.

From ESPN's report: "Moore plays at a relentless pace at both ends. The long-armed and extremely athletic prospect impacts the game in a variety of ways. At this stage he is a position-less prospect who snags rebounds, leads the break, and finishes well-above the rim. His ball skills are very good..." (I'm not an Insider)

He is a top-200 national recruit, according to 247sports.com's composite ranking (specifically, #197). Future150 has him ranked #145 nationally.

Played HS ball on the same team as Shaq's son, Shareef O'Neal.

Coach Pera used the #RiceRising hashtag today, which essentially announced a new commit.

2018 G Rip Economou chooses tonight. Had us in his final 11 or so, but only took visits to UTEP and BU. UTEP was also his first offer I believe.
