RE: Thoughts on OOC scheduling and the BE
From Tigernet:
ACC teams have two years to gain respect
by David Hood -- Senior Writer - Thursday, June 28, 2012 2:22 PM

Quote:We all know how much SEC schools like to chant their conference affiliation during sporting events, and we have even seen where some schools almost claim a conference member’s national championship as their own.

That practice has been ridiculed. It has been made fun of.

And now – GULP – the schools in the ACC need to do the same. No, not chanting “ACC” every chance they get, that practice is still ludicrous, but pulling for the other schools in the conference when they play out of the league. Last year, I was the biggest Oklahoma fan on the planet when the Sooners played at FSU. Heck, most Clemson fans I know don’t even pull for the ACC schools in the NCAA Tournament.

However, the schools within the conference all need each other to start doing well on the national stage. Florida St. needs for Clemson to beat South Carolina and Auburn this season. Clemson needs for Boston College to beat Notre Dame. ACC schools need to be very vocal in their support of N.C. State when they play Tennessee the night before Clemson plays Auburn in Atlanta. It would be nice to see Virginia knock off Penn St. and Duke knock off Stanford.

Cat, I don't know what you think of Tigernet - you impress me as more of a Shakin' the Southland kind of guy - but this author is 100% correct here, IMO. For the ACC to win like the SEC, the ACC has to become more like the SEC - including pulling for each other against non-conference opponents. You feel that Clemson was done wrong by UNC in the past? Tennessee's Phil Fulmer reported on Alabama for NCAA violations. That doesn't mean the Tide doesn't want the Vols to beat the Wolfpack - it just means they want to kick their tails every chance they get to play them? Alabama hates Tennessee, but so what? Clemson fans need to channel that hatred, not remain bitter about it (IMO).

Now basketball on the other hand, there are piles of schools I'd like to see a home and home series with. In no particular order: UConn Louisville Temple Memphis Cincinnati ND Georgetown Villanova.

And I'm looking forward to playing expatriots Cuse Pitt and WVU regularly. We have a series with WVU and hopefully there won't be a riot and can extend the series.

If you won't schedule us in football, there is zero chance we would play you in basketball.

Having Temple play a one and done in Football and home-home in basketball would be fantastic but I don't think our AD would come up with a guarantee high enough to make it happen.

Be about the only way your worthless football program would get a game against Clemson.

It seems Clemson may have a scheduling problem in the near future in my estimation because the only team worthy or playing Clemson is...Clemson.

No, not really.

With the dumb*** 9th ACC game we only have to find two "one and done" OOC games one year and one "one and done" OOC game the other.

We just have to figure out where to create the extra revenue we will lose because of the 15 Syracuse football fans and the 6 Pitt football fans.

Cuse will have a ton more fans than 15...don't you remember we had to help fillup your BB arena for a NIT game.

If we can schedule a multiple game series with Notre Dame and Penn State, I think we can schedule one with VA Tech.

Not neccessarily, both Penn State and Notre Dame have good reasons to want to play in Philadelphia. I don't think VT has much reason to play there.

Trust me, you don't have much reason to play VT in basketball, either. [Image: 03-banghead.gif]

There is only one ACC team w/o an alum playing in the NBA right now... guess which
