RE: 2013 Football Recruiting
watch out! an offer from Tulane.

seriously, good to see the massmen trying to get up to D1 speed quickly.

btw, what's the plan with the home stadium. there's a remodel of the on campus one with the use of the Patriot's field as a temp thing, right?

The new press box and 38k square football facaility will be free standing to get around building codes, as hand rails etc.

Quote:The new media section will feature new television and radio booths, suites and press boxes. Plans are for the completion of the project to be ready by the summer of 2014. The Minutmen will play all of their home games at Gillette Stadium during the next two seasons and will have to play at least four home games in Foxboro from 2014-2016 as part of the five-year commitment. The plan is to host a game or two at McGuirk Stadium in 2014 and beyond.

It will be nice once UMass has the stadium on campus renovated and expanded to 25,000 seats.

I would think then the goal would be to play all the MAC games at home and bring the big non-conference teams into gillette for attendance purposes. A lot of quality teams will play UMass in gillette because of the Boston Market.

This is a recruiting thread but will give you a reply. That is not the goal to play all MAC games on campus. The goal is to become successful, (have the move up be revenue neutral after 3-5 years) and not to flop badly. Because if that happens, dropping football will be on the table.

Building codes require the aisle to be two inches wider and hand rails installed. There was a plan to drop the field two feet and put additional seating in front. (Note: There will be drainage issues and there are some wetland issues.) We are constricted by a 1965 stadium and building codes. It would make more sense in 10 years to blow it up and start fresh. Most teams loss in their first 5-7 years of moving up and the fans will not travel to Amherst. The Boston media and alumni live in metro Boston. We will be playing a majority of games at Gillette for a very, very long time.

Notice the fourth bullet item from our second FBS study in 2003.
2003 - UMass to lay ground work for FBS Football
Quote:The Chancellor of UMass Amherst will develop a five-year plan for intercollegiate athletics that includes the continued development of the current football program at Division I-AA level (with scholarships). This plan will include the following elements:
  • Development of 501c3 athletic association to encompass the entire intercollegiate athletic department's revenue and expenses.
  • Development of a fundraising plan capable of sustaining the intercollegiate athletic program at competitive levels for football and the other sports the university sponsors.
  • Development of a capital plan to address facilities issues for football at the Division I-AA level and other sponsored sports at the Division I level.
  • Development of a budget plan that ensures fiscal solvency of the intercollegiate athletic program within three to five years.
  • Development of a promotional plan that will build the audiences for Minuteman intercollegiate sports in football, basketball (men's and women's), hockey and other programs as appropriate.

If you won't play in an on campus stadium then we need to just cut you loose. I guarantee you aren't going to do any winning so Gillette won't work out.

Then cut us loose, bluff called.

Read the contract, even if you give us a 2 year notice. There is nothing in the contract for us to look at all options for 730 days. If and if we decided OK we'll join the MAC on day 730, the MAC has to accept us.

We are guarantee 150k per game at Gillette, It's in the Gillette contract.

RE: 2013 Football Recruiting
Back to recruiting, we picked up #7 John Page and third New Jersy recruit, who had an offer from Temple and interest from Boston College and UConn.

This is a better link by Bob McGovern on MaroonMusket.com. Will leave the others.
Better story from MaroonMusket
Quote:Page is a two- or three-star recruit, depending on who you ask. Rivals, Scout and ESPN have him listed as a two-star lineman, and 247 Sports has him at three stars. Each site indicates that Page also held an offer from Temple.

We know that UMass offered Page during an unofficial visit earlier this month.

The Minutemen now have three verbal commitments from offensive lineman. Page joins Sam Zeff and Richard Queen, both of whom are also Garden State products. Each athlete is at least 6’4 and approaching 300 pounds, which tells me that UMass is going to maintain its tradition of having an impressively large offensive line.

UMass was able to out-recruit the likes of Temple, Central Michigan, Rutgers, UConn and Tulane for these athletes. That’s a far cry from the typical recruiting battles involving CAA opponents.

John Page
Rivals 2 star above link shows commited 6/30

Quote:■Cole Ormsby, DE: Windsor HS (Conn)
■Todd Stafford, QB: Greenwich HS (Conn)
■Steven Casali, LB/RB: Sachem East HS (N.Y.)
■Sha-ki Holines, DE: Commerce HS (Mass)
■Richard Queen, OL: Bergen Catholic HC (N.J.)
■Sam Zeff, OL: Montclair High School (N.J)

Looks like Toledo lost a 3* to former coach at Illinois.

Decommitted a couple of weeks ago to verbal to Iowa, now headed for Illinois. So the decommitment from UT is old news. He obviously hasn't considered a part of UT's current Class of 8 for awhile.

According to Scout CMU just picked up 2 more 3* players. WR Mark Chapman (offers from BGSU, EMU? and Toledo) and OG Derek Edwards (offers from AZ, Toledo and WMU). Up to 17 commits, 5 are 3*.

BG has 6 verbals....we only have like 10 Seniors this year, so we won't have a very big class. The most intriguing one apears to be OG Ryan Hunter form Buffalo NY via Northern Ontario. He came to the US in the fall of 2011...so he may be under a lot of people's radar.

Well, at least Enos can recruit. He just may setup the next coach to have a really strong team.

Dear BrianNowicki,
Just a correction, although you did have a question mark, Eastern did not offer Chapman. Also, if one checks out all the recruits from Central's Scout.com board, you will find nine or ten only received an offer from Central. Now, that can mean something, or it can mean nothing. I just think it's interesting that that many other schools did not offer. Other teams, including Eastern will have one offer players that are recruited, but when you have half or more that fall into that category, I sometimes question how good are they? They all can't be sleepers or diamonds in the rough.

precisely, lot of us feel his coaching has been subpar. He does have an ugraded core of coaches now this year and are hopeful year 3 will be a breakout year. Offensively the talent is there our qb has to play 4 quarters and shke off the demons that have plagued him the last 2 yrs

I wrote that. I was going by the Rivals site that indicated he had an offer from EMU. Strangely, it no longer lists a Toledo offer. As for single offers, many were recruited early and right out of CMU's camp. I am happy with the five 3* players this early and the fact that some of them have BCS offers and even Toledo. Toledo's staff seem to be pretty aggressive at going after good talent. It's also nice to beat out the broncos for a recruit or two.

Dear CMUprof.
I stand corrected. I will read more carefully in the future, however you quoted Scout.com in your original statement, but as you corrected... you meant Rivals.

It was a report on the CMU Scout site, with ratings and offers from Scout/Rivals. How's that for clear?!

Just curious, do you know that he lacks a EMU offer or were you going by the Scout website? Not that it matters though.

Not sure it matters that a guy only has one offer. Bruce Gradkowski's only DI-A offer was from Toledo, and it didn't even come until less than a month before signing day.
