RE: As bad as the BCS is...
I actually LIKE the BCS and wish it was to continue. It really did offer some access for the Belt if one of our teams scheduled right and won. We just never got there.

I just hate the fact that really only maybe 15 of 124 or so FBS teams can compete for a BCS national championship any given year, the system is so stacked against so many
It is part of the reason I don't want ga southern to move up until something is changed

If/when they move to a 4 team playoff(top 4 teams) that will open it up to about 80 of 115 teams that would be able to get in.

I preferred the old system. ECU got marginalized by the BCS. Back in the day we were just one of the many eastern independents that played quality football. The day the BCS started we became a second class program. We went from having our own independent TV deal with ESPN to 15 years later being perceived as having no market and no value to anyone.

Right.
The BCS marginalizes all of us not in an AQ league or in the future mega-VIP conferences.
The playoff idea of a 4 or 8 team format selected by BCS numbers or a selection committee will further marginalize us.
I believe that to rectify the situation either the BCS must be ended or the playoff must include all FBS Conference Champions. I prefer to push for an all-inclusive playoff because not only will we have a true seat at the table, but it will lead to smaller conference lineups thus spreading the TV money around as well.
If a school in the one of these far-flung mega-VIP conferences sees a better opportunity at getting into a playoff by becoming a member of a smaller conference they just might jump.
An all-inclusive playoff is the only way to bring back sanity and regionality to FBS conferences while making it fiscally beneficial to all.

RE: As bad as the BCS is...
16 team playoff with the 10 conference champions (Not counting WAC) and 6 at large teams using BCS rankings are the only logical way for a playoff. Non AQ teams are FBS members and do not have any chance of winning the National Championship, that is whole reason a playoff is needed. Every conference champion deserves a seat at the table and anything less is not a true playoff.

I'd settle for "play-in" access for the Belt, CUSA, Mtn West, MAC, Big East champions at least guaranteed a "play in" slot. Of couse, that could be otherwise labeled "seeding". My preference would be 10 auto bids and six at large (just think of all the SEC at large bids Mr. Slive!) but if they want to hand the bottom four conferences an extra step, I'm game. Just dont leave us out.

RE: As bad as the BCS is...
I'd prefer something much simpler. Top 8 teams no matter where they are from. No AQ bids for any league. If 4 SEC teams make it so be it, if 2 non-AQ teams make it so be it, if no B1G teams make it so be it. I don't want anything given to anyone. A 7-5 or 8-4 C-USA/MWC/Sun Belt/MAC champion doesn't deserve to make the tournament. At the same time a 8-4 or 9-3 champion of a "power" conference doesn't deserve it either. I'm fine with keeping the BCS formula to decide who the top 8 teams are.

This would change nothing in terms of marginalizatin.
It leaves all of the power in the hands of the Mega-VIP Conferences.
As long as there is no access to non-Meg-VIP Conferences to the playoff, the gaps between the big guys and us will only get wider and wider until there is no connection whatsoever between us and them. In effect, we will be shut out of that system and the FCS system playoff as well.
We would be the only conferences not playing for a national title. How long could our bowls sustain themselves in such an environment?
I fear we would be forced down into the FCS level of football by default.

RE: As bad as the BCS is...
What I am saying is I don't think anyone should be automatically qualified for the tournament. I don't think a C-USA/Sun-Belt/MAC/MWC team should automatically make it, just like I don't think an ACC/PAC/B1G/Big East team should either. I don't think the BCS formula is great, but the last thing I'd want selecting the top 8 is a selection committee. I just want the top 8 teams regardless of conference. If ECU is good enough to get there great, and if we aren't that's on us.
