Here is an idea (that I know will never happen).

What if we got rid of conferences? We could then rank all 120 (or so) division I teams in Tiers (maybe Tier 1 through 5), based on lets say win% of last 5 years and AP ranking.

Then we could have some computer simulation create all teams schedules. Where everyone would have to play a few teams from each Tier. And I guess we could make an exception where each Team gets to pick a couple opponents.

I think it would definitely solve a lot of problems
