This discussion is too funny. If a BMW dealership has sagging sales, does everyone assume that the cars are junk and the company is falling apart, or do they hire a new manager for the dealership.
The Big East is hiring a new manager. Most were critical of Marinatto and his leadership. Well, that is being addressed. The future of the league is to be determined from this point forward.
Well the news we got is The Big East is kind of in chaos right now. You don't just let someone go after 8 months of negotiations. We need Pitino to get on the mic and tell us what is going on. He has been running The Big East for the last 6 months anyways.

Our former BMW dealership now rents out garden tools and jack hammers.

He's probably about to catch a train to the B12.
I thought he was against going to The Big 12? Not that he has much choice in the matter. I always thought the Louisville to the Big 12 rumors were just Louisville fans looking for a way out and never took it very seriously since you always see that Texas likes ten teams. Now I would not be surprised if the Big 12 grabbed up to four teams.

He might be but I'd think he would like playing Kansas, KSU, Baylor, WVU and Texas in basketball. B12 is a solid hoops league.
Ultimately it depends on what UL president wants to do. That and IF they get a B12 invite.

Yet, if ND ever bolts i have no idea what would happen. I'm not even sure what the eastern and mid west catholics would do, would they stick together or create a more geographic based league. The 5 eastern catholics could pair up with some A10, caa, etc school's for a nice 12 team eastern based league, ditto depaul, mar, st louis, xaiver and other mid west school's forming a new conference.
This. ND is "the glue" that holds the BE together. They leave then all bets are off.

And why would a puppy with two peters be happy?
Well, he'd be happy that he was a puppy (as opposed to a person)and didn't have to try and fit both in one pair of pants....

My advice would be to get a Southern, football-centric Commissioner to straighten things out.

You must be watching a different program than I am. Top 20 & CUSA champs in football, NCAA tourney basketball team, recent College World Series team.
Most programs would love to have that.
The only thing you have right is a smaller market.

Sounded like sarcasm to me. Southern Miss is worthy, market or not.

The financial mess that department is in could doom any hope of a move to the BE..
CUSA could make the power move and pull off teh 24 w/o MWC
CUSA could subtract and add for 24 w/o the MWC and let the MWC get some CUSA-W teams.
The B12 could now pull of the Louisville scenarios....
Could the BE actually break apart down football and bball only lines....

ECU and OU could be next on deck.
Huh? As unlikely as ECU ever actually getting in the BE is you may have just named a program who has even less of a chance.

OU is a growing school who has a great recent history in hoops and a good recent history in football...

1) Notre Dame, Louisville, UConn, Cincinnati and Rugers are looking.
2) Big East may not be doing well in revenue sharing for football.
3) Air Force and BYU have no interest in the New Big East.
4) Boise, San Diego and Navy maybe ready to pull a TCU!
5) Georgetown, Villanova, Steton Hall, St. Johns, Providence, DePaul and Marquette maybe looking to split.
6) Marinatto has completely blotched the TV contract renewal.
I firmly believe a lot of glue is needed to fix this. I do believe that these teams will stay togather:
Temple
East Carolina will be added
Central Florida
South Florida
Memphis
SMU
Houston
Change happens. The Big East felt that change was finally needed after the past 12+ months. Doesn't mean things are "falling apart" so to speak. Look at the Big 12, the conference Louisville fans will split their wrists over if not invited, and how Beebe was kicked to the curb after a series of events which surely had people thinking that that conference was done for, now they're as strong financially as ever. Who knows, the new Big East guy may be the right guy for the job, and could even bolster the conference at a similar pace as the Big 12. We don't know yet, but i think most Big East and non-Big East can agree that change was needed in conference leadership.
