If the MWC ever wanted to expand, NDSU wouldn't be a bad choice.

#1 NDSU and MWC are institutional peers.

#2 NDSU doesnt want to be with any regional smaller town schools (sdsu, usd, und)

#3 NDSU plays in fargodome and its loud as hell, and beats up on FBS schools 6-3 in last 6 years.

Well, apparently even the NCAA can't tell North Dakota from North Dakota State apart. They just sent NDSU's FCS championship banner to UND. Oops!!

Give CUSA a call. We need to lock down the heralded Dakotas market, pronto. CUSA is so freaking geographically awkward though, NDSU might end up in the eastern Division. Hope that's not a deal-breaker.

If the WAC survives (for football) I think it would be a good fit for NDSU.

RE: NDSU to FBS, who wants us?
In light of what I have heard about the "Idaho Plan" for the WAC, as well as Boise State's desperation to join a Big West which clearly doesn't want them, I am offering a revision to my post from five weeks ago. The Vandals, allegedly, want the WAC to go to a 9/12 alignment, leaving out moneyless Sacramento State as I posted, and holding just one spot for either Boise State or Utah Valley, which would probably add football later.

WAC AS ENVISIONED BY IDAHO
North Dakota \ North Dakota State
South Dakota \ South Dakota State
Denver (no football) \ New Mexico State
Montana \ Montana State
Boise State (no football) or Utah Valley (no football) \ Portland State
Idaho \ Seattle (no football)

As stated five weeks ago, you go across the top section of the country with big state schools, and leave the smaller regional schools in the Big Sky.

BIG SKY REMNANTS
Eastern Washington \ Idaho State
Weber State \ Northern Colorado
Southern Utah \ Northern Arizona
Sacramento State

LIKELY UPGRADES
Central Washington \ CSU-Pueblo

FOOTBALL-ONLY
UC Davis \ Cal Poly SLO

This proposal for the WAC makes the most sense of anything I have seen in the last few months. For some reason though, the Montana and Dakota schools seem to be afraid to pull the trigger, despite being angry about a bunch of urban start-ups passing them on the road to FBS. They would have the easiest transitions of any group of schools to ever jump to FBS since the majority of this WAC would be moving up at the same time.

The June 1st deadline to notify the NCAA for moves up to FBS (a four-year process) has come and gone and there was no notification from NDSU or anyone else out west. So unless the "Idaho Plan" is for an FCS WAC, it's not happening.

I really don't think it's a 4 year process....

look at Georgia State....
2012- playing FCS- not eligible for playoffs
2013- plays FBS- not eligible for bowls
2014- plays FBS- eligible for bowls

The interesting part for the WAC- I'd guess June 30 is a big date. I'd assume some schools are deadline for their current conference is then. Where Idaho and NMSU might see about a waiver is to play multiple teams in 2013 that are moving up, but not in that 1st year of FBS- but counting them towards bowl eligibility.

Baseball is currently ranked in top 30, beat #5 Arizona is, 33-9

Softball was in super regional and been to 3 NCAA's

Volleyball has been in 3 NCAA's

Soccer has been in 2 NCAA's

Track has had numerous athlete's at NCAA, *2nd place in 800 w* wins the summit league in mens/womens for 4 years straight.

Wrestling pulled off a top 20 upset.

GOLF Amy Anderson made 3 NCAA"s, Lead Us Womens 1st round.

Facilities are top notch (new basketball, track arena's within a year)

Who wants us? honestly, our football team deserves the FBS.

lol 2 wins vs. MAC in 2006 and 2007, one against a crappy Ball State team. haven't you beaten Minnesota twice as well within the last few years? does this mean you've "dominated" the Big Ten?

If you are able to get five more football teams to make the jump I think the WAC would be a good fit. Outside of that I don't see another conference as a fit.

I agree. I would like to see those states represented in the FBS. Maybe this is what the WAC should do to survive. I've always thought that these schools could form a pretty good conference.

I agree, it would be one of the more sensible arrangements geographically and I think would be just what those schools would want IF they have FBS aspirations.

Isn't that supposed to be June 30th, as in the end of the fiscal year?

No, the FCS/FBS deadline is June 1.

Duly noted. Thank's! COGS

Montana

North Dakota
North Dakota State
South Dakota
South Dakota State
Wyoming

Wyoming will never leave the MWC for this group of schools and Idaho State doesn't have the facilities or the money to move to FBS. Nor can the state of Idaho support three FBS programs. The only realistically achievable configuration is the "Idaho Plan" that I posted above.

North Dakota \ North Dakota State
South Dakota \ South Dakota State
Denver (no football) \ New Mexico State
Montana \ Montana State
Boise State (except for football) or Utah Valley (possible future football) \ Portland State
Idaho \ Seattle (no football)

This is actually achievable if someone can convince the Dakota and Montana schools to leave the lesser programs from the Summit and Big Sky behind in favor of a league full of similar state universities. Wyoming is not leaving the MWC and San Diego State is not going to help.

Unless Montana State and UM come with you then you may as well join the club with Georgia Southern, App State, and Villanova.
