Last 2 shots at a BCS game for just about all non-AQ's
AQ designation is officially gone as of the 2014 season.

This is it AD Compher...you have 2 years remaining to achieve your goal for NIU to be the first MAC team to go to a BCS game.

Our chance of getting into the 4 team event is so much more unlikely because they are going to be focusing even more on SOS than they are now.

From 2014 on to have a shot at the top 4 we would have to seriously up our OOC schedule. No FCS teams would be a good start.

Yep, getting into the "4 team event" will pretty much be impossible for a non AQ.

What I think the 4 team "play-off" does is provide a seed for mission creep to occur where eventually it turns into a full playoff. That would be my hope anyway.

That is what will happen. The greed in college football is so great, and there is a TON of money to be had in a large playoff. It will start with 4 and my guess will be up to 8 if not more within the decade.

Delaney did say that evolution was better then revolution. They want to proceed slowly and make sure they don't poop in the bed. I have a feeling the most you'll see is an 8 team playoff, and that will be years away. I also doubt you'll see a non-aq team in that scenario. The pusher man needs to feed the big dogs and will provide just enough money to the non-aq's to keep them interested, but they will get a small slice of the pie, a pat on the head and told to go home play nice.

It is pretty much the only hope.

I think a non-AQ team in the playoffs each year would be freakin huge. The bball tourney is about Cinderellas until the big boys come together in the Championship game, why on earth wouldn't Cfball want to replicate that in every way, shape and form?

+1

There would be more interest in a football playoff if there was a big underdog.

Unfortunatly travel cost is a big problem and they don't want to have the game at a non bowl location.

Travel Cost? Give me a break, a playoff, just like the NCAA tournament will make the NCAA and its schools millions (probably billions) of dollars in sponsorship money each year. Travel cost is the least of their worries.

The reason they dont want non aq schools in the mix is so they only split the billions between 70 schools instead of 120

I was refering to the fans not the schools.

Do you think that 40,000+ Wisconsin fans are going to travel to Texas in the middle of December than again to Miami 2-3 weeks later?

The past two years the Fiesta bowl is joked about because it isn't selling out. What if the fans only had 2-3 weeks notice and already dropped a few grand going to the first round game.

The playoff will expand. The problem is that the new "BCS Contract" or whatever it is called will probably be in place for 10 years. I am guessing we are 20 years away from a fair playoff system.

All of those games are going to require some local fans to fill some seats. I bet it's that way for most games during the regular season. How much money do Wisconsin fans spend during the year going to away games? Playoffs aren't that much different.

20 team bracket. First round is four "play-in" games; the four winners are the last four teams into the round of 16. The higher-seeded teams host all the games up until the Championship game. The championship game was played at Frisco, Texas in 2010 and 2011. Chattanooga hosted it from 1997-2009. All the games are shown on one of the ESPN platforms, most of them being on ESPN3.

Here's a clip from a favorite game of mine, a 2009 FCS Semifinal between App State and Montana. Absolutely brutal weather conditions!

Watched it also. The place was packed and the atmosphere was electric.

Those are the type of fans we need at Huskie Stadium!

Yeah, but don't forget. Montana may be FCS but they ARE the football team for the state.

Montana has a great fanbase. For their eight home games in 2011 (two were playoff games), they averaged 24,878.
