the elephant in the room
I'll say it... I'm worried about these guys coming out over confident on Thurs night.

Mick's talked about one main concern all year and that's handling success. With all of the praise this team has received over the last few days, is anyone else worried about them being cocky or am I just being a typical bearcat worry wart?

I think the only time they have came out over confident (post brawl) was against Syracuse. I liked how that went.

I'm worried about the other roster. Not that worried about our guys other than if we have one of those nights where the basket has a lid on it.

My biggest concern is the refs. i can see what you're saying but i also feel like the questions about cincy-osu, even not having a grasp of the history, will underline the importance of the task at hand. if nothing else, i'm worried about them being overwhelmed by the pressure being wound up too tight.

Eroc, by "refs" being your concern, do you mean that you're concerned about favoritism/one-sidedness, or whether they call it tight vs. swallowing their whistles? As long as you're referring to the latter, I agree completely. I felt that was a major factor in our win over FSU - we recognized we could punch the bullies in the mouths and pretty much get away with it. We out toughed the tough guys.

I also agree with rath about the biggest concern being the other team. Ohio State is really damn good. They're vulnerable and we do match up extremely well, but they're still really good. They are a 2 seed with a B1G championship appearance for a reason.

i did mean the latter. if they let the boys play and see who come out men, we'll be moving on to the Elite Eight. if they call the game tight, we don't have the depth at the big positions to keep up and Sullinger will get and 1s all night and Kelvin Gaines will find himself on the wrong side of Sportscenter.

i also noticed that regardless of whether the refs are calling it tight or loose, the refs give TONS of respect to Aaron Craft. He's extremely physical with opposing ball handlers and the refs are content to let him go. i'm not saying he doesn't deserve respect as a defender, but the refs are giving him way too much leash.

RE: the elephant in the room
Must be a small elephant, I wasn't worried about that at all tbh.
I think the memo has been recieved by the seniors and Wright, this is their last year playing together. The rest will continue to feed off that, if we can get the athletic plays from Jackson and some shots from Kilpatrick, they'll find themselves in the Nola.
The effort they gave against FSU, was their best this year.
They'll show up. I have my fears, but I won't mention them, as I feel very superstitious about this team. Not sure why...

I admit it crossed my mind.

I remember when we beat syracuse most people on this board felt that was the biggest win in school history. The championship game the next night didn't matter in their minds and have to wonder if the players felt that way.

reading the post It's evident that we are all satisfied with the sweet 16. I have to wonder if it's good enough for our guys as well or are they willing to dig deep? It's a pretty even matchup size and depth wise.I Think our guards are better other 3 spots go to OSU. I wouldn't be shocked if we won or got blew out.

Yup. Anything can happen. Depends on if we can shoot.

I hadn't been worried until you just posted this 04-jawdrop I can't believe a team would come in overconfident vs. a legitimate top-ten Ohio State team. But, winning the kind of game they won on Sunday, I could easily see these guys feeling on top of the world.

I am prepared for any outcome except a blowout on either side. That would shock me.

RE: the elephant in the room
I have a good feeling about the team. I know they are going to come out and play hard against OSU. I have concerns about how the game will be called, if they call it tight I think we are in for a long night- but so far I think the refs have been letting them play in the tournament.

I believe one of the reasons we lost against Louisville is that our legs were gone. We had two tough matchups leading to the title game, while Louisville had the benefit of 2 blow outs and was able to rest some of their guys. Our FT shooting was extra horrible in that game, as well as our 3 pt shooting, and we turned the ball over more than I thought we really should have- all signs of fatigue.

Guys will be rested going into Thursday night- so I think we give them our best shot.

i agree; mick's comments after the louisville game worry me. he said something to effect that his team has a tendency to get over confident. hope that's not the case this weekend.

Due to playing Louisville who they already beat. They know OSU is good.

RE: the elephant in the room
I just don't see our guys being overconfiedent vs OSU for couple reasons...they have been in the top10 or close to it all year and also, it's the ncaa sweet 16 round, everybody playing is here for a reason. They also had the benefit of seeing teams like Mizzou, Duke, and Michigan all go down so I just don't see them being overconfident.

Swagger...yes, we may have some swagger, and i hope we do but they can have swagger and still play like the underdog.

Considering most of the "experts" are saying we can't beat the Buckeyes, just like we couldn't beat the Seminoles, that they will come out on fire. They will not come out overconfident against a team that is favored to beat them by 7.5 points.

This is the NCAA tourney, and the Sweet 16.

Have you looked at Yancy? His eyes tell it all. He has a look of determination. He wants it all. I would hate to be a teamate who takes things lightly.

I am not a see-er. I cannot fortell the outcome, but do know we will not take the game lightly, or give up.

RE: the elephant in the room
Normally when a team comes out tight, the biggest problem is with their shooting. Since we aren't great at shooting anyway, that probably won't be a huge problem to surpass. We live and die with defense. Shooting comes and goes, defense is forever.
