We already knew that they would push the envelope on LHN. But IIRC the B12 passed a rule that means no high school content on LHN. So pushing the envelope means taking as much Big 12 content as they can and putting it on LHN. Again, we already knew that -- they will try to put even more football and basketball games on LHN, they pretty much have to if they want to get more than 173 people to ever watch the channel.

I did always think the reason texas didn't want to expand is control, i.e. more teams less control. Yet, maybe espn wants it + i think not having a champ game hurts. Also, BYU probably would go along with texas on most issues so that might be a big factor in them getting an invite. As for ND, if they ever joined a football league, i would go with the acc adding them and uconn or rutgers. I wouldn't rule out the big 10 for the irish but i would rule out all other leagues. Rutgers to the big 10? i like it even without ND, could pair them with either maryland or Kansas to jump to 14. Yet, i don't see that move happening unless ND joined the acc for all sports, in which case maryland is probably staying in the acc.

In the mean time, UT has a majority voting block of schools in their back pocket (OU, OSU, BU, TTU & TCU). Why risk adding two possible dissenting votes that could pit the North against the South in two deadlocked voting blocks when you have full control right now?

Actually, as the Big East 27 month clause showed, the 6 year agreement is just hot air. It means that if a better deal comes along, the college will simply pay a few million more and walk.

However, it is likely only to be the teams that can afford it that would take such an option - Texas and OK. The rest of the teams in the conference would likely not have the money to pay to free themselves, and are therefore locked in.

I don't see how this grant of rights will force teams to stay, unless they can not afford the payout. Instead of being a 27 month requirement it will be a 6 year requirement, reduced by whatever a substituting team will bring in.

It really shocked me how low the payout was for West Virginia. That precedent means that Texas can bolt for not that much, and it will be much cheaper for them in 3 years when they only have to buyout half the years. Also, I think a judge would find that the Longhorns rights would only be 1/10 of the conference contract - just their share.

See, now I wonder if what's holding back UL AND BYU is that neither one will be a Texas vassal. I mean, I don't expect Luck and company to roll over for them--I definitely don't expect Jurich to. And I disagree that BYU will go along with Texas--they're very Texas-like in their inability to play nice. Well, maybe they will be natural allies then...

The way I see it, Neinas is not a decision maker, he is supposed to be an advocate for the Big 12 membership. Meaning, he can say whatever he likes, but if the current Big 12 University presidents want to expand....he will have to start making phone calls. That goes for all conference presidents.

The majority don't want to expand right now.

You can also add WVU to the Texas voting block for right now. They helped us get in over Ville and Ollie is tight with the UT admin.

I dislike Bevo as much as any good Texan with more than a HS education does, but you can't blame them for TCU's situation. The Frogs were fighting Rice for last place every year at the end of the SWC and had a non-existent fan base. Thats why the Big 8 did not want them (or SMU, Rice & UH who all were suffering from the same poor performance and no fan base issue at the time).

Besides, if you want any further proof that TCU is bought and paid for, look no farther than their agreement to always play UT, in Austin every other year on Thanksgiving with no return trip to Amon Carter on Thanksgiving ever (so that they always have a game in Austin on T-day every year) and although I dont know, I'd say it's pretty much a certainty that if TCU was willing to take that, they were also willing to let that game be a LHN only exclusive as well.
