In his State of the Union address, President Obama proposed that we take the money we're no longer spending on the war in Iraq and apply half of it to pay down our national debt. In suggesting this he made it clear he lacks an understanding of basic economics.

The war in Iraq was financed through federal debt, not tax revenues. By pulling out of Iraq we have only slowed the growth of the national debt, rather than having created additional tax revenues to pay down the debt.

So what Obama in essence proposes is to create more debt to pay down the national debt. Make sense to you?
